New RAM needed - motherboard not in list

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to buy some new Corsair RAM for my mum's old desktop PC and just want to make sure I buy the right modules.

The computer is an Evesham (UK company which went bust last year) Axis 64 KD and has an MSI-7025 motherboard (not on your motherboard list). It currently has 2x256MB Hynix PC3200u-30330 DDR 400MHz CL3 modules (Model No. HYMD232646D85) and I would like to replace them with either 2x1GB or 4x1GB depending on price.

I did a bit of a search on the net and it seems I need non-ECC unbuffered memory so was thinking that the VS2GBKIT400C3 modules would be compatible? Can you confirm?

Is it possible to get 2x2GB modules for such a system?

Would it be OK to fit the two new 1GB modules alongside the existing Hynix modules and thereby get 2.5GB of RAM? The MB has four slots so they will fit physically but I don't know whether you can have 2.5GB. In the olden days it always had to be double the original as in 1MB, 2MB or 4MB (but not 3MB) etc. Yes, it was a long, long time ago when a single 1MB module cost £40!
