Problem with v1.5 but not v2.2 of TWIN2X2048-8500C5D

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have an EVGA 680i motherboard 122-CK-NF68-A1 running in dual channel mode with a TWIN2X2048-8500C5D set at 2.1v 5-5-5-15-22-2T @ 1066 MHz. This has been stable for more than 3 years. Of note, the two sticks of DDR2 in this set is listed as v2.2 on the sticker.

I then bought another TWIN2X2048-8500C5D kit from Bestbuy.com. I noticed that the sticker here lists the DDR2 as being v1.5. I added these two new sticks to my motherboard (total 4 sticks now, all banks populated). Now my system fails to POST.

I then took out the two new sticks, leaving the two old sticks in. No problem, boots fine. I then took out the two old sticks, and swapped in the two new sticks into the same memory banks. System again fails to POST.

I can only conclude that:

1. either the two new sticks are bad

2. there is a difference between the new sticks (v1.5) and the old sticks (v2.2), such that the v1.5 sticks are incompatible with my motherboard.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!
