thorpef1
Hi, i recently upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit, so i decided to upgrade my RAM. I went from 2gb to 8gb. I have been having a few problems with 8gb installed, the computer will occasionally freeze(once when playing modern warfare 2, once when encoding a dvd, once overnight whilst downloading) This is what happens: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y106/lukestuart1/Computer/20112009314.jpg?t=1259111745 When 4gb is installed there are no problems. I ran Memtest86 4.0 to see if there were any errors, when i had all 8gb in, it showed many errors, here is what it looked like: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y106/lukestuart1/Computer/24112009318-1.jpg?t=1259111745 When i run memtest with just 4gb installed, there are no errors. I have tried running them at both recommended timings and default timings of 5-7-7-24 Are there any known problems for this setup and if so, are there any solutions? Wired
1. What's the version # of each pair? 2. Try 800 MHz, as you're mixing memory that hasn't been tested together as well as possibly mixing ICs as well as maxing out the memory controller. thorpef1
They are both version 2.1. But shouldnt they be compatible as they are exactley the same ram. I will set them to 800 and run a memtest overnight
Yellowbeard
If it's not stable overnight, try adding more voltage to the memory controller to accomodate the load of 4 modules. 1-3 steps above the stock voltage should do it.
thorpef1
I sent an inquiry to Gigabyte, and they said that the dimm's only produce 1.8V at stock. So i added 0.3V to bring it up to 2.1V. I also added 0.1V to the NB, but will drop that and see if its stable at stock aswell
grimal
I am encountering the same problems as you. Able to run 1 pair (4gb fine). I've tried two additional pairs...the first pair would BSOD (similiar to yours), also got errors in MemTest..the second pair wouldnt even post (I believe these to be bad). Anyways, I did what you suggested (boosted the voltage by .3 to bring it to 2.1). Have you had any luck in doing so?
