GrandAdmiral
Hi there I recently brought the 2x2GB memory kit for the improved timings over my previous C9 Dominator but there are a few things making me think I have a dodgy batch: -The serial number on both sticks shows as 0 in AMD Overdrive and blank on CPUZ -There is no 1600 profile in the SPD, the only options I have are 444MHz 6-6-6-16 @ 1.5V, 592MHz 8-8-8-22 @ 1.5V or 666MHz 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5V. -I was told this was the AMD BEMP compatible kit but AMD Overdrive does not allow me to access the BEMP online download Am I right that theres a problem and what can I do about it? UNIXUSER
I have CMG4GX3M2A1600C7. That is what I see on CPU-Z as well. I was able to get it running at 1400 7-7-7-20. Ram was set to 1.68v. NB set to 2149. 215 X17 = 3654. Have you tried the AMD overdrive software?
GrandAdmiral
AMD Overdrive reports exactly the same as CPU-Z. Mine is currently stable at 1333 7-7-7-20 @ 1.6V set manually but I would really like the proper settings and BEMP so I can tighten the timings further (since 7-7-7-20 is the 1600 settings). UNIXUSER
Up ram to 1.68v , cpu-NB vid 1.42v, You might get 6-6-6-20 at 1333. The book says 1.65v for the ram; but the folks hitting high speed up it to 1.68v, or so.
GrandAdmiral
Thanks for the suggestion. Is there any way I can get BEMP working? I'm not really in to overclocking so if I could get that to do it for me it would be great. All my options are greyed out, is there no profile for my RAM or is it an issue of some kind? Also, what should my other settings be set to (like command rate etc) or is it just trial and error? Grand Admiral
UNIXUSER
Down load MSI overclocking center. Or AMD overdrive software. On the MSI softwar select DOT then advance. Easy way to change CPU clock. Where the AMD overdrive software can change most ram settings.
GrandAdmiral
MSI Overclocking Centre wont run on my system. I know AMD Overdrive can change those settings, I just need to know what those settings should be. Grand Admiral
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2009 The profile comes from the AMD software and only when it detects you have a Black Edition CPU, there is no extra information in the SPD. So as UNIXUSER suggested please make sure it shows the right part number in CPU-Z.
GrandAdmiral
The part number above is the one being displayed by CPU-Z and AMD Overdrive, and I have a 955 BE processor. I did just notice that neither CPUZ or Overdrive say Black Edition when it lists my processor, is this normal? Grand Admiral
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2009 NO it has to detect it is a BE CPU or it will not load the profile, I would suggest you check with AMD as I am sure they will have a CPUID Utility to check the CPU. If it does check out then I would talk to the MB maker.
GrandAdmiral
Thanks RAM GUY, I'll follow up here when I get a response from AMD and Gigabyte. Grand Admiral
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2009 Yes please do let us know and just to be clear the part number shown in the SPD has to be XXXXXM2B1600C7.
GrandAdmiral
Its definitely B, I made sure when I bought it. Grand Admiral
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2009 Then they should be detected if the CPU is detected as BE.
GrandAdmiral
Which its not (CPUZ readout attached), even though you can't get a plain 955. Grand Admiral
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2009 I would contact AMD and see what they say, that should show "BE" in the part description.
commission3r
use cpuz 1.53 it will have all the info ur looking 4 currently runnin these modules @ 1386 with incredible tight timings 6-6-6-15-21-1T @1.65v no issues @ all as i overclolck in the bios i have no need 4 overdrive so i cant comment on that ~ sorry u may need 2 update ur bios 4 these rams to work properly cpuz validation - http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1017193
GrandAdmiral
Thanks commission3r I will try those settings. Just out of interest, could you please post the SPD tab view from CPU-Z so I can compare it to mine. That'd be great. Grand Admiral
GrandAdmiral
New settings are great, definite performance boost over what I was running. Grand Admiral
UNIXUSER
I have found that most that are useing CMG4GX3M2A1600C7 and CMG4GX3M2B1600C7 went with 1.8V on the RAM. CPU-Z 1.54 will then show 800 7-7-7-20-41 2T. under XPM. 1.8V is now working great for me.
dangfoo
Having same issue, timings defined by SPD are not up to spec running Gigabyte GA890FXA ud7 and a Phenom 2 1090t Black edition CPU BEMP just gives me the two fingers in AMD overdrive. (most current version of Overdrive as of this post, and ATi cat's)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 11, 2011 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 11, 2011 Please run CPU-Z and post a screen shot of the SPD tab.
Yellowbeard
Last I checked, AMD had abandoned BEMP anyway. Since they are not maintaining the XML files on their end, BEMP is not going to work. Set the timings and voltage manually and you'll be good to go. dangfoo
Here is what CPUZ says Btw using F4 Bios on my mobo well is there anyway i can get the XML file for these mem sticks? would come in handy compered to manual setting?
Yellowbeard
There is no way to get the XML file that I am aware of. Just set the voltage and 4 timings, the ones on the side of the memory module and you are good to go. FYI, the SPD IS up to spec. The SPD has to conform to JEDEC spex so the system can boot the first time or from a CMOS cleared state.
