CMG6GX3M3A2000C8 suddenly reads as CMG4GX3M2A2000C8??

This month I built the system as spec'd in my profile along with a friend who built a very similar system at the same time. All the CPU and memory voltage and timing settings are the board default; I'm not into overclocking. All was well until he discovered the "Windows Experience Index" and asked me what my numbers were for comparison. I'd already run it previously and the RAM initially had numbers somewhere in the 7 range. I ran another assessment at his request but this time it showed 5.5 - what?!?

So - using CPU-Z I checked the sticks. Slot three and five were correct with a part number of CMG6GX3M3A2000C8. Slot one claimed it was a CMG4GX3M2A2000C8.

Confused and befuddled, I pulled the stick from the board and confirmed it said CMG6GX3M3A2000C8 on the side, which it did. I swapped it with the stick in slot five to see if it had something to do with the board. Nope - slot five now claimed it had a stick of CMG4GX3M2A2000C8 installed.

Anyone else experience this? Any ideas about the cause (and solution)?

Thanks!
