barkster28
I bought one of these the other day off ebay because the dell memory fan is like $300 and my client was paying for it so I opted for this supposedly modified corsair solution. When I received it I examined and really only noticed that the plug may have been changed. Does anyone know what may have been modified to make this work in the dell precision workstation 670? I tried plugging a regular 3-pin fan into the system and it didn't like it so it seems the did modify to make this work. They mention having the use a dell system fan to make this mod. I'm just wondering if all they salvaged was the plug. Thanks http://app2.sellersourcebook.com/users/86515/cormemfan3.jpg
Yellowbeard
You'll probably need to contact Dell. If their 3 pin header is not a standard pin out, then they will need to tell you the pinout. Or, if you have a meter you can test the Dell fan header yourself. I can't imagine the Dell having a proprietary header or pinout as that means their boards would have to be differnt from OEM designs, they'd have to buy proprietary fans, etc etc. Do you have a regular 3 pin fan to test on the board? barkster28
yes I have tested it with a regular 3 pin fan and it wasn't reliable, sometimes it would boot without error and sometimes not. I just think that the dells have temp/rpm sensors etc??
Yellowbeard
Is there an option in the BIOS to turn off fan monitoring on that fan header? As I said, unless it's proprietary, a fan is a fan.
barkster28
Ok bought me one of the dominator fans and swapped the jack with one that fits the 670, doesn't work. They are definitely modifying it to work with the
barkster28
Found out how to make this work on a dell, since this doesn't have rpm sensor you have to short the yellow wire to ground see http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7586_102-0.html?threadID=261994&tag=forum-w;forums06 This saves your $200 bucks over the dell fan that is really only worth about $
