Does Garbage Collecting P128 version VBM18C1Q work in 2009 MBP Snow Leopard?

Recommended Posts

I have a mid-2009 Macbook Pro and have installed the Performance 128GB series, which so far is working, though I haven't used it much as yet. I wanted to know if the so-called Garbage Collecting mechanism that is listed with this version works on my machine, and if so what is the best way to activate so as to maintain performance levels?

If this does not work on my machine is there a way of keeping the performance level up, or does one need to do a complete erase and re-install to achieve this. If so, what is the best way to do this from time to time if performance drops?

From what I've read the answer is a sad no.

Seems that the GC feature will only work when the drive is formatted with the NTFS filesystem. This *may* or *may not* be fixed with a newer firmware when it is released.

Thankfully, from what I can tell with my P256, if you use your drive to install your programs and read from it, you won't get hammered by the performance degradation as hard. Write speeds will go down, but the read speed should remain about the same.
