erictirrell
My August Sirs, I am attempting to add two 1GB sticks to my existing computer currently running with two 1GB sticks in dual channel for a theoretical total of 4GB. All of the memory is Corsair: Now 2 x CM2X-1024 DDR2-6400 800MHZ 1.90V 5-5-5-12 Add 2 X XMS2-1024 DDR2-6400 800MHZ Problem is I get a value of 2814MB when I use the diagnostic 'Everest' no mater what I do. All memory passes Microsofts Memory test, quad, pairs and indiviually. I would prefer not to go to 64 bit. Although I have the OS and because I run Windows I am experienced in reloads so thats not a problem. I think I can handle the driver issues. The question is, do I need to migrate to 64 bit architecture to gain the 4GB value of memory I need? Stated another way, is there something I can do to make the current configuration see the 4GB? Regards, Eric.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 14, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 14, 2009 How much memory is on your Video card? That will come off of the top of the 32 Billion Bits of accessible memory in a 32 Bit O.S. and why you only see a little less than 3.0 Gig. erictirrell
My August Sirs, Thank you for your reply Ram Guy. Ya, I know some of the other hardware devises use up the memory resolution. Which means the answer to the 64 bit question is... Yes. I will have to get to the 64bit OS to see all of my memory with my nVidia 8800 grabbing some and I am suspicious of the Creative SB X-Fi grabbing some too. Regards, Eric.
