Toasty 42C idle temps

I understand what you guys are saying. I'm not disputing what you are seeing on your screens. My point is, from idle temps to full 100% load on 4 cores for a 125w CPU, you are going to have more than a 3c to 10c change in overall temps. I don't care what the software says. You cannot defy physics.

I understand you clearly Yellowbeard, i know that the temperatures will definately swing much more.

I will run Prime95 for one hour with room temp at 31C (Australian weather ftl..) and will report back here if my PSU makes it in these temp's :D.

Well I think theres something wrong with either your cpu senser or your motherboard senser, because theres noway it will only go up 3c running prime95.

I agree. Any problems with your system in general?

Can you show all your core temps? I see core 0.

1. a phenom 2 only has 1 temp sensor, hence core# 0 is fixed and there are not 3 others to show.

2. if i load core temp while prime 95 is running it will only record the lowest/highest temps from the point that i opened core temp.

3. while y'all may be right, lets get a few questions answered first before scaring the poor guy for no reason, ya?

1. Didn't know that. I have never used a AMD cpu. Thanks.

2. Open up core temp when your cpu has no load and then start Prime95 to measure load temps.

sorry mate, i understand point 2, i was just making clear its a qustion that needs to be asked before assuming that the low temp displayed is idle or not, therefore we dont know if it only increased by 3 degs from idle. sorry for not being clear about that.

i find that its best to let it run idle for 10 mins or so to make sure it has settled to true idle temps.

Hmm, i know i have a BE phenom, but i have only ever overclocked once, my first pc, AMD Sempron +3400 from 1.8GHz to 2.0GHz..

I never damaged it, or had stability problems, but i dont really like the idea of overclocking.

I might try to overclock it once i get a decent PSU (most likely from corsair!) so i can plug in the additional CPU power thing.. or is that for 140W only..

Well thanks everybody i feel much more confident with my brand new Corsair H50 cooler!
