TWIN2X2048-8500C5D compared to TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX

Recommended Posts

Question One

I need advice on which one to choose for my DDR2 4GB Kit memory upgrade.

TWIN2X4096-8500C5D (the one with black dominator heatsink)

TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX (the one with (the one with silver dominator heatsink)

I know the 6400C5DHX can run at 800 speeds on 1.8v .

What I wish to know is if the8500C5D can also run at 800/1.8 v .

Question Two

My PC is currently using the 2GB kit TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX .

Is it possible to mix the 4GB kit listed in Question One with this 2GB Kit = 6GB ?

My Mainboard has 4 ram slots, and can support up to 16 GB.

I'm going to change my OS to Windows 7 64-bit, soon.

My system specs are listed on my profile.

Thank you very much for any help!

The PC8500 should run just fine at 800/1.8v but we don't officially test it at that speed. However, I've done it many times and never had an issue. IIRC, 800 at 1.8v is in the SPD for that kit so you should have no problems at all.

As far as mixing the old kit and a new kit, the only way to know is to install it and test.
