Slamz Posted October 21, 2009 Share Posted October 21, 2009 Hi, I have a hx850 that makes a strange intermitent buzz noise (its a quick one, almost like a tick, and is really hard to explain) it just makes this noise quite alot, and very randomly (moreso when the pc has been on for a while) This is the second HX850 I've had, as the first was RMA'd as it buzzed constantly, but it also has this strange noise... I've had support from 'yellowbeard' over on the xtremesystems forum, he has been very helpful, but unfortunatly, hasn't been able to solve the problem. I have also tried disabling C1E and EIST, thought this had worked, but no, the noise is still their. I'm getting quite frustrated about this if I'm honest, being my second one, rma'ing it and getting a third seems almost pointless to me, as I haven't much hope left with them... Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 22, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 22, 2009 If you have had the same problems with two different units then I would suspect that the motherboard or video card may be responsible for the buzzing. I would try booting the system up in safe mode to see if you can duplicate the noise, if you can not, then there may be a video or chipset driver that is causing the noise. If possible you may also want to test the PSU in a different system and see if the problem follows the PSU. If all else fails we can try replacing the PSU, but in most cases the noise is going to be coming from a capacitor on either the PSU, video card, or motherboard, and since this is the second PSU, I would suspect that it is unlikely the cause of the noise. Slamz Posted October 24, 2009 Author Share Posted October 24, 2009 Its constantly making a short buzz sound, likes its shorting out...its incredibly annoying and worrying. my old one buzzed constantly, this one only buzzes for a split second (has for longer a few times) and also smells very strange. Thes no way its any of my components buzzing, its definitely the psu... Its really winding me up, I didnt hear it do it atall yesterday, so really hoped it was fine, but now its started again. Seems to be worse one its been on for a while :( I don't know what to do, it'll be the 2nd sent back, and I dont want them to just turn it on for a few minutes, say its fine and send it back to my expense (I really can't afford them to either...)
