Kevin123
Hi, I have been using Corsair Dominator memory since they were first introduced during the Pentium days. My latest set of memory, the Dominator GT, is giving me some issues and I'm hoping you can give me some tips or assistance. I'm getting BSOD and at first I thought it was attributed to Norton Anti-Virus 2010, so I go rid of that and installed McAfee, good for two days then BSOD. BSOD can happen after system boots or during application use. Note that this only happens when running at the XMP specs. If set to "AUTO" which defaults to 1333 @ 1.5v all is good. I have ran the Windows 7 Memory Diagnostics (extended diag) and it has detected errors with the memory. Normal diag did not detect any errors. Unfortuantely I doesn't seem like the Windows memory diag provide any detailed reports on the errors. I can try other tools however Windows BSOD happens quiet often and I'm leaning towards bad memory? Please let me know if more detail is required. Wired
Test one stick at a time at the rated speeds / timings / voltage. Most likely 6 sticks @ 1866 is too much for the memory controller. Try dropping down to 1600.
Kevin123
Hmm, thank you, that's an interesting thought about the memory controller. Not that I don't believe you but any other opinions out there?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 21, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 21, 2009 With 6 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR1066 or DDR1333
Kevin123
Hi "RAM GUY", thanks for the reply. It is currently set at 1333 & 1.5v however do you think having 6 modules at the XMP spec of 1866 @ 1.65v is a bit too much the memory controller on my MB as "Wired" stated above? When my system was crashing at the XMP speed everything else was set at default, my core i7 975 was at the default speed and QPI speeds, etc. Nothing overclocked besides setting the memory to the XMP speeds of 1866 @ 1.65v Thanks again for the suggestions and help. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 21, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 21, 2009 I doubt that you can run with XMP enabled with 6 modules you can try it with XMP enabled but I would limit the memory frequency to DDR1333 or no more than DDR1600 but you would just have to try it and see if its stable.
