Crovax
Hi, A few months back, I bought a XMS 3 DHX 1333 2x2GB kit. Today, I went to the store grab another kit to have 8GB DDR3 installed. Unfortunatly, when looking in Everest and CPU-Z, its shows different module names: DIMM1 : Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1333C9D DIMM2 : Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1333C9D DIMM3 : Corsair XMS3 DHX CM3X2G1333C9DHX DIMM3 : Corsair XMS3 DHX CM3X2G1333C9DHX Are D1&D2 re-used parts? The only thing I can find on these codes, are that the dominator series are selling in 6GB kits and not in 4GB kits... Could some one give me some advice if an rma is needed?
Wired
Did you get a 2nd 4 GB kit or replace what you had with an 8 GB kit? What's the new part number that you bought today?
Crovax
I've added a new 2nd 4GB kit. On the package the partnumber is TW3X4G1333C9DHX G, and these are marked in cpu-z and everest as Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1333C9D I just noticed, that the new bought 4GB kit has version 2.3 and the one I allready had is version 1.2. Can these be replaced by the correct ones?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 19, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 19, 2009 I am sorry but mixing memory is not supported I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR1066 with 4 modules installed.
Crovax
Sorry, but I don't think you understand this correctly. I bought the same set(!),i'm not mixing memory.Thats the issue that I have... A few months,I bought the TW3X4G1333C9DHXG and the sticks in this package are listed as Corsair XMS3 DHX CM3X2G1333C9DHX sticks. The new bough set, aswell with the part number is TW3X4G1333C9DHXG but the sticks are Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1333C9D... So there are wrong sticks in the package... This has nothing to do with mixing memory or running on lower speeds. This kit should have XMS3 sticks and not dominator sticks (refurbished?) Crovax
Does techsupport agree on a RMA? On the product sheet (http://www.corsair.com/products/go.aspx?pn=TW3X4G1333C9DHX) they mention the following : 4096 Megabytes of DDR3 memory Two matched CM3X2G1333C9DHX modules I had Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1333C9D in the package
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 19, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 19, 2009 No; you purchased two sets of modules correct? If so then I am sorry that is mixing memory and you would need to test them as they are sold as one set 2 modules at their tested settings to be sure one is not failing and if they all pass one up or as one set but not when installed together then doing an RMA will not solve that problem. Crovax
I bought 2 kits of TW3X4G1333C9DHXG. The first kit of TW3X4G1333C9DHXG has 2x Corsair XMS3 DHX CM3X2G1333C9DHX The second kit of TW3X4G1333C9DHXG has 2x Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1333C9D see the difference? Could you explain me why there are different modules in the second kit?I tought while buying XMS3 modules, I would actually have them instead of some refurbished dominators desquised as XMS3 modules. This is just insane...This couldn't be my problem as the modules are different in the package? So,i'm not mixing up modules, they were just wrong from the beginning.(dominator modules in the package of XMS 3 modules?) Its like buying a ferrari and getting one with a lada engine. Just forget that I allready had some memory installed and look it in this way : I just bought a kit TW3X4G1333C9DHXG but CPU-Z identifies the modules as Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1333C9D.(the product sheet shows me that 2x CM3X2G1333C9DHX modules are in the package) That sets me thinking that I just received wrong modules in the XMS3 package I just bought... (i'm sorry for the reaction,it has been a long day and I dont receive much support from the local shop : Oh,manufacturers are doing that. Selling kits with different modules in it,its mainstraim :o Its like everyone thinks i'm a lunatic. I bought product A and I received product X,I just want product A!) Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 19, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 19, 2009 The SPD info is not correct but the SPD information is the same for both parts and as long as they are performing properly there is no reason to replace them. Did you test the modules one set at a time and are they failing http://www.memtest.org when tested as one set of Two modules?
Wired
FYI the difference in those part numbers is the heat spreader (old description versus new description of the same part). It's just a typo in the SPD label. There is no actual physical difference. However, the version numbers do mean something. The 2 pairs have different ICs in them. Since they weren't tested / sold together in the same pack, they can't guarantee them to work together at their rated individual settings.
