AndreyG
Hello everybody, Could you tell me what is the actual capacity in bytes of 8GB Survivor? Here is what fdisk shows: Disk: /dev/rdisk1 geometry: 966/255/63 [15532032 sectors] Signature: 0xAA55 Starting Ending #: id cyl hd sec - cyl hd sec [ start - size] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *1: 0B 0 1 1 - 505 12 16 [ 80 - 15531952] Win95 FAT-32 2: 00 0 0 0 - 0 0 0 [ 0 - 0] unused 3: 00 0 0 0 - 0 0 0 [ 0 - 0] unused 4: 00 0 0 0 - 0 0 0 [ 0 - 0] unused So the total capacity would be 15532032 x 512 = 7,952,400,384 bytes. Is it normal or I am missing ~50Mb of memory? (I assume that in this case 1GB stands for 10^9 instead of 2^30) Thank you!
Synthohol
remember 1024 bytes is a megabyte, its marketing math. 8 gig advertised (we think 8,000,000,000) is actually 8,000,000,000/1024= 7,812,500,000 true gigabytes. hope that helps perceptions. AndreyG
Synthohol, thank you for replying, but I do know the trick. My friend who has other popular brand 16GB flash drive claims that he's only "missing" ~200Mb. So I am just curious what the real capacity is.
