8v8tor
I'm asking for advice or pointers on getting this drive up to speed. Using HD Tune I'm only getting 170MB-Max and 160MB-Min with an AVG of 168.9. Burst rate is 133.1. The drive has slowed down compared to the initial installation but I did not benchmark it then, only decided to check it out when it seemed slower.... I am using AHCI and the Gigabyte controller. Any ideas??? Thanks
Wired
Side question: Where'd you get the memory? Can't find that on Corsair's website or anywhere else: HX3X8G1600C9
8v8tor
it's actually the Corsair 12GB HX3X12G1600C9, I learned after I got the board that it would not support 12GB of DS RAM....so I'm just using 8GB...I thought the model #'s were the same...The memory came from Newegg.com...thanks
8v8tor
...ok I've tried switching to IDE instead of AHCI and not much has changed...also defrag even though it's not necessary and I'm getting 170MB/sec avg. Swapping the drive around on the board trying the different controllers did not help.....The drive has 47GB on it. Any ideas or suggestions?? Thanks... Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 5, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 5, 2009 Can you image the drive then delete the partition and quick format it and test it with no O.S. installed on it?
8v8tor
Imaged drive and moved imaged to Raptor....Quick Format and here are my results: Before I formatted the drive I tried moving the P128 to the 0 channel and did get some improvement, 218MB max and 190MB avg, but nothing near the specs for this drive. Should the graph be more flat lined? or is this normal? Thanks again...
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 6, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 6, 2009 That is not unusual, something may be going on in the background and the performance is about in spec. 220 MB/s sequential read 180 MB/s sequential write I would suggest using Crystal HDD Bench or ATTO Disk Bench for a more accurate result. 8v8tor
I disabled all of the startup apps and used ATTO:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 6, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 6, 2009 What O.S. are you using and I would try and format it with the Quick option and allocation set to 32K and test it again.
8v8tor
I'm using Windows 7 build 7100 with the latest drivers and bios, not much change:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 6, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 6, 2009 The read is a bit low but the write above spec, so I would have to say the drive most likely fine.
8v8tor
The biggest improvement was moving it off the Gigabyte SATA controller and moving it to the P55 controller...maybe as the drivers mature I can gain a little...thanks again for the help.... I can really tell a difference after being back on my raptor...kinda feels sluggish...;):
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 7, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 7, 2009 Yes I know what you mean I used one in testing and imaged it to my system then I had to return the drive and was back to a slow Seagate.
8v8tor
Wow...After formatting and moving the image back these are my results. Do you recommend formatting every so often??
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 7, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 7, 2009 No more then likely it was not setup properly but doing that should bring the drive back to best performance.
megabuster
I don't know if I set up my SSD settings wrong but my numbers are a little down comparing to other posts. Maybe it's Vista x64 fault. Any suggestions how to improve performance of my SSD? I disabled Indexing Service and enabled Write Cache and Advance Performance of the SSD in hardware properties, I also selected Native Sata Port 0-1 in Bios but did not enable AHCI mode. http://0scnsg.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pKzZXIByOm6u6MDwq_UDFsqVCTSvY3Gl8c5QSm0qFAWF8Tn5U1rhnahuJWyRx3IVebpdSMAS4xjplLte7qJkQtw6u7VHxi9vN/SSD%20Performance.jpg
8v8tor
Best solution I have found is to have the drive on the 0 channel and set to AHCI....Imaging(using Acronis) and reformatting using 32k did help...my reads are still over 233MB/sec...writes are around 185MB/sec.
