Necrosaro420
Been getting some BSOD recently and alot of slowing down of the system, and alot of choppyness. Anyways I decided to test out the ram, I have 4 sticks. I put a single stick in and booted the system to try things out. Two of the 4 sticks will not boot the system. All 4 are 8500C5D's 2gb sticks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 30, 2009 How did you purchase the modules? And the two that are failing are they from the same set?
Necrosaro420
How did you purchase the modules? And the two that are failing are they from the same set? I believe so, they are the same numbers, and they were in the same channel (Ie black slots compared to others in blue slots) and I know I purchased 2 pairs at seperate times. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 30, 2009 You can tell by the lot code on the modules two of them should be the same version and lot code and the other two should match as well. That being said you cannot mix them if they are different versions and thta may be why you are having a problem, In other words one set that matches would need to be installed in the slots so they are in dual channel with each other and then the other set in the other two slots. I would suggest testing the modules again but just install them one at a time and reset the MB BIOS normally there will be a jumper on the MB to rest the BIOS and then laod setup defaults and set their tested settings and test them with http://www.memtest.org to be sure. With 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR667 or DDR800 depending on the MB and CPU installed and set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts and set the NB/MCH/SPP Voltage to +.2 Volts as well and test the system with http://www.memtest.org. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

They are identical. Same #'s etc. So they were purchased together. Did not have this problem up until about a week ago and Ive formatted 4 or 5 different times using different versions of windows and still have this issue. Once this pair was removed I no longer had this issue.
