SRSHCBS
SO, I have a Dell Optiplex 160L here in my office at work, and I need RAM in the worst way, as it is running on one 256m stick. I went to Dell's Support Page and did a lookup on the RAM to get the specs, and then to Newegg for Corsair, the only RAM I use in my personal PCs. Dell's support page recommended PC3200 in 400MHz, no problem, I got TWINX2048-3200C2PT from Newegg. I went to install the matched pair, and when I restarted, I got a series of 2 long and 2 short beeps, and no startup. The RAM I took out is 333MHz, not sure if that makes a diff or not. I went in to edit BIOS, and the memory settings are locked. What should I do now?
SRSHCBS
Also, I know that I did not try to install more than the max for this system, as 2G is the max.
SRSHCBS
I really hope Ram Guy can help me out, I need to get this fixed prior to the end of my work day. :(
Wired
Return the memory. Dell's sales site is wrong. Guaranteed-Compatible Memory for your Dell OptiPlex 160L That memory needs specific voltage to run at the rated speeds. Old Dells like that are SUPER picky about memory. Stick with the recommendations in the link above.
