James Cree
Hi guys. I am going to be getting the 128GB GT when it is available in the UK and I have a question: I have the 64GB Voyager and after I formatted it to exFAT, I noticed a considerable performance boost to this fairly slow drive, has anyone tried the 128GB GT with exFAT? Is it likely to inrease the already impressive performance of this drive? Many thanks.
James Cree
Nobody? Not even RAM GUY? Surely RAM GUY gets everything for free? ;-)
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 10, 2009 Corsair Employee Share Posted September 10, 2009 So far the only testing we have done is with NTFS and Fat32. I am pretty sure it should run at about the same speeds.
James Cree
You should test it with exFAT, RAM GUY! exFAT FTW! It really did make a difference with my 64GB Voyager. It could just be down to the fact that exFAT uses very large clusters. But there might be some magic in there. Micro$oft did make exFAT specifically for use on USB flash drives. NTFS is bad for flash drives because even if you are only reading a file, NTFS is writing something to the drive at the same time. Weird... Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 11, 2009 Corsair Employee Share Posted September 11, 2009 If you decide to get the 128GBGT flash drive let us know what kind of results you get. I'm sure they will be similar results to FAT32.
James Cree
If you don't think it will make a difference, I may not bother with exFAT. It is not widely supported as yet. I only did it to my 64GB Voyager because it was so slow, that was possibly due to it having 8kb clusters. A couple of questions for you ram guy: 1) Is the 128GB GT factory formatted to FAT32? If so, what is the default cluster size? 2) Any idea when they will be available in the UK?
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 14, 2009 Corsair Employee Share Posted September 14, 2009 It is formatted in FAT32 and cluster size is default. Not sure when it will be available in UK. Might want to ask Customer Service. Please contact our customer service at 888-222-4346 and dial "0", (510) 657-8747 or email rmaservice@corsairmemory.com to find out when the drive will be available in UK.
