X-64 Trim

Hey there - firstly thanks to Bluebeard for posting the new FAQs for both style drives .... I'm curious about the Trim feature in Windows 7. I'm running RTM Pro and Trim is enabled, so I ran the CrystalDiskInfo program and it reports that Trim is featured in my X-64 drive (see image below highlighted in yellow); is this correct or just another false-positive from the software? It also reports that I only have 32mb cache, which is obviously wrong lol.

Any clarification on this?

RAM GUY has previously confirmed to me in an earlier reply that Trim is currently supported in Firmware 1.0 on the Extreme drive so the newly posted FAQ is an apparent contradiction of this (I am running Win7 Ult 64bit RTM).

We are also awaiting Corsair's findings on the cache issue that was highlighted last week by dbw09. Corsair staff found the same 32Mb reading but when they took the drive apart it had 64Mb. I expect some further advice on this in due course from RAM GUY.

FW Version 1.0 already has TRIM, but it uses Indilinx own specific commands (wiper.exe). I think that you are asking about ATA TRIM command which is automatically initiated by a supporting OS. Example of a supporting OS would be Windows 7. Currently none of our drives have ATA TRIM support.

Now I am even more confused! Microsoft states: "In Windows 7, if an SSD reports it supports the Trim attribute of the ATA protocol’s Data Set Management command, the NTFS file system will request the ATA driver to issue the new operation to the device when files are deleted and it is safe to erase the SSD pages backing the files." *

What other attribute is CrystalDiskInfo seeing when it flags up that the Extreme disks support TRIM if not the ATA?

I think I get what Ram Guy is pointing towards - in as much that TRIM will be reported as being supported, but only at a controller level (i.e. using the Indilinx Wiper). The actual ATA command as supported by Windows 7 is not currently active in the current firmware.

Windows 7 will activate TRIM if it detects an SSD but even if operating within the OS it does not mean that it will operate within the SSD until the firmware supports that command set at the ATA level.

If I'm reading this correctly then it all makes sense :-)

I am sorry I cannot confirm or deny anything (SCHULTZ) when it come to Microsoft! Once its officially released there will be more information available. From what I understand reading between the lines Microsoft and the SSD Manufacturers have slightly different interpretations of the spec. and I think that is what most are working to resolve.
