babdi
Hello Everyone ,newbie here :): I am unable to run the memory at 1600 Mhz. When I wrote to Gigabyte they said their DIMMs support 1.5 v and they will not be liable if anything happens by using 1.8 v :(: The system defaults to 1066 Mhz when I load "Optimized settings". Can anyone help me run at normal CPU speed, 1600 Mhz RAM without crashing please. Thank you
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 18, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 18, 2009 No you would need to over clock the CPU to get the memory to run at DDR1600, but you should be able to run them at DDR1333.
babdi
Thank you Ramguy. This leads to 2 questions 1) What are the settings of CPU,RAM to run, crashfree, at 1600 Mhz 2) To run at 1333 Mhz. I work video editing softwares like Corel Video Studio VS12 pro and Cyberlink power director 7.0 ultra. Editing and rendering are mission critical and hence would not like my PC to crash on me  PS: Can AMD overdrive software configure/suggest optimum settings for me automatically ? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 19, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 19, 2009 1) What are the settings of CPU,RAM to run, crash free, at 1600 Mhz? A: There is no way I can answer that because it is over clocking and you would just need to experiment to get the most stable setting. 2) To run at 1333 Mhz. A: Just load setup defaults and the set the memory frequency at DDR1333 and the voltage that is printed on the modules and set the tested settings Mnaually Cas 9-9-9-24. babdi
Talking of memtest, I downloaded and worked memtest86,v3.5. When I select 3.5 it starts and my system reboots. The same thing happened with ver 3.5 exprimental. v 3.4 works fine. Any reason why 3.5 fails to work. I had set the mem at 1600 Mhz,9-9-9-24 1.8 V, CPU at 3.2 Ghz,rest at default:confused:
Wired
Wrong memtest! Test one stick at a time in each slot using Memtest86+ v2.11.

babdi
Thank you wired. One stick tested at a time on all slots. All fine  My system now runs at 3.5 Ghz,1333 Mhz,9-9-9-24,1.8v. I tested 2 video editing applications and both worked fine. Running at 1600 Mhz is unstable and crashed often. What do I need to tweak ( one step at a time ) to get my system working at 1600 Mhz. babdi
The video application crashes/ hangs when set to 1666 MHz. CPU set to 3.2,3.3,3.4,3.5 and 3.6 Ghz. I tried increasing the memory voltage 1.8 +0.5 v. Tried latency from 11 to 7 RAS CAS delay from 20 to 30 No additional cooling devices Any suggestions
babdi
I tried to increase the memory voltage upto 2.1 at 1600 Mhz, Tried Latency settings from 7-7-7-24 to 11-11-11-30, Tried CPU settings from 3.2 Ghz to 3.6 Ghz By the way how over voltage is safe for the memory My system is stable otherwise with 3.6 CPU,1600 Mhz,9-9-9-24 1.8 V. babdi
Update System stable at 7-7-7-20, 1600 1.8 V except video editing softwares refuse work beyond 1333 Mhz memory, 3.4 Ghz CPU with 9-9-9-24 1.8 V

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 15, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 15, 2009 If the system is stable at these settings I would leave it there.
babdi
Can the AMD over drive stability test be considered as the good bench mark test or should I re-establish it with any other test. If yes which is the industry standard stability testing tool.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 15, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 15, 2009 I don't know there is a standard, but if it passes any lengthily test like that test or Prime95 and or Orthos and or Memtest86+ and the system is stable you should be fine
babdi
Thank you RAMGUY. Since it has passed 1 hour stability test of AMD over drive software I can be sure that the system is stable. Few questions Since my system does work when set to lower/higher CPU speed with memory clock at 1600 Mhz and voltage set to less than 2.1 in BIOS 1) Will running the memory at 2.05 V cause harm or RAM failure. 2) Will the performance life of the RAM get reduced because of higher voltage. 3) What is the extreme voltage and speed the RAM is put through in the Test Labs. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 16, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 16, 2009 Max memory Voltage for DDR3 is 2.0 Volts and you should not have have to use more than about 1.8 Volts to get the tested settings of the modules. And the tested setting are all I can promise, there is some extra guard band built into our production test but that is not made public sorry!. babdi
Update The system with said configuration in earlier post becomes unstable after few days. Is there any settings I need to try to change to make the system permanently stable. Recap CPU 3600,1.3 Voltage Memory 1600,2.01 volts Rest default. Result = Hangs after few days
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 20, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 20, 2009 What are the current settings you have set for both CPU and memory?
babdi
Current settings CPU Clock speed = 3600 Mhz CPU VID = 1.35 V NB VID = 1.1 V NB Core = 1.1 V SB Core = 1.2 V HT = 200 NB speed = 2000 NB Multiplier = 10x MEMORY Clock speed = 1600 Mhz Latency = 7-7-7-25 Voltage = 2.05 Dual channel, unganged Memory voltages less than 2.05 V does not pass 1 hour stability test of AMD overdrive. I had also tried Latency with 9-9-9-24 to 30 and 8-8-8-24 to 30 with settings as above. No good.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 22, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 22, 2009 Try increasing the NB Core Voltage +.1 Volts and see if that helps.
