I just sent an email to rma@corsair.com to try and at least confirm that Corsair has received the package and, if so, see if I can get an update on the status of my RMA. kaprikawn Posted October 2, 2009 Share Posted October 2, 2009 Phew, this thread is almost a relief to me to be honest. Now I know I'm not the only one! I got two X32s a week or so back and stuck them in a striped raid. They worked fine for a while (around a week) then I started having my system freeze up on me, which I've now pinned down to my having the same problem as the OP. I actually thought at the time though that it was my mobo so I've upgraded and did my new build today. Lo and behold I'm still getting the issue which I now know is down to the drives. Today, after I assembled my new system, I created a raid0 and started to install Vista64 when my raid failed. When I rebooted the system only recognised one of the SSDs. So I tried just installing on that alone (no raid). But that failed partway through installation. So I'm thinking at this point that both my X32s are faulty (which I was worried about explaining to the reseller before I came across this thread). But I just want to make sure of that first before I start RMAing and whatnot. Will try the jumper thing too first. Will come back once I've done a few tests. In the meantime the drives are: PART NO. Seldom Posted October 5, 2009 Share Posted October 5, 2009 Hi, this is just to inform that I got my drive back last week on Wednesday. So it went through the RMA process relatively fast. I have already used it quite heavily, trying out this and that - including writing a log file permanently on the SSD. Up to now it works reliable, not any issues so far. I also got more than 220 MB/s read performance reported by SiSoft Sandra - quite impressive. I will do a fresh install with Windows 7 next weekend and then check out how my new system performs. I really appreciate the good support and fast responsiveness in this forum - thank you for that! I will keep you posted how my system works. bigloudjeff Posted October 5, 2009 Share Posted October 5, 2009 I bought to x256 drives at the same time. Installed them both into my laptop. The system drive (c:) has been working fine. The second drive (d:) would just disappear when ever I put any load on it. But restarting windows would cause it to re-appear. I have sent that drive in for RMA but there is a 2 - 3 week back order on the replacement. I have been using my old SATA drive until then. I did a fresh install of WIndows 7 during when I got these new drives and have been slowly reinstalling all of my dev tools, utlities, etc. I finally got everything installed and all of my licenses updated and decided to do a full backup using Windows Home Server last night. I guess that was too much load for the other SSD drive. Because windows blue screened an hour or so into the backup and now my laptop can't even see the drive. I didn't have time this morning to pull the drive and put it into an external enclosure to see if I could mount it and try to get an image of it. I have several licenses on that drive that will get counted against me if I cant uninstall them. What a pain. Anyway, I will try all of that tonight, but I think I will have to RMA this drive also. It seems to have died a much harder death than the first x256 that went bad. My question is this? Should I just say screw it and try to get my money back from Amazon? And then try to see if there is a more reliable SSD out there? Or do I give Corsair a chance to remedy the problem. I am nervous becuase there seems to be a high rate of failure on these drives. And while Corsair and (Ram Guy) are being very quick to help start the RMA process, there doesn't seem to be much firm information coming back from them explaining the issues and reassuring me that the replacement drives wont have the same problems. Davyc Posted October 6, 2009 Share Posted October 6, 2009 Hi Jeff It is a bit of a bummer that you are having problems with your drives; however, ALL major SSD manufacturers use the same inner components supplied by Samsung and the controllers are either Samsung or Indilinx. There are some slight variations in the controller sets (basically to brand the drives for that supplier) and the NAND units are basically all the same too. Even those who claim to manufacture their own memory chips use Samsung NAND chips and Indilinx controllers and if you whiz over to other M/F's support sites you will see that they are faced with similar problems with drives disappearing and the like. It is new technology for end users and there are going to be hiccups along the way until all the known and unknown bugs are ironed out. It is a bitch when you're the one faced with the problem, but I had a similar problem with a different companies SSD and sent it back to the supplier and got a refund. I then bought the Corsair X64 and its been a stunner - I've had my fair share of DOA's and drives that went west and has to RMA them and it does tend to colour your belief in the m/f's ability to supply good gear, but they are, at the end of the day, machines and machines do go wrong for a multitude of reasons. I tried IDE, AHCI and RAID in the bios and also different power- and sata cables and sataports but no win there. Also flashing my bios to the latest version didn't work. So is there any chance I can get my data back? I'm a little upset just after 2 days I installed all my stuff+windows it's broken. It was on the sata0 port, like it should be with the dvd burner on the last port (5). My raid hd's won't affect this I think, because they're on a different sata controller. (2port Gigabyte) specs: AMD PhenomII 550BE@4cores 3.2ghz (oc'ing doesn't effect it, tested it) Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD3P F4 bios Asus 8800GT 700/1800/1950 4GB OCZ pc6400 Corsair X64 SSD (the bootdisk which disappeared) Adata 32GB SSD 2x160GB WD1600YS in raid0 (sata) 250gb Maxtor (sata) 80gb Maxtor (ide) dvd burner (sata) dvd (ide) Corsair 750watt psu (forgot HX or TX, I have the modulair) So should I try to place a jumper? You can see if the reseller will let you send it back or do an RMA with us, but if you do the RMA with us we will not replace the drive till this issue is solved. mdaabil Posted October 12, 2009 Share Posted October 12, 2009 Ram Guy, any updates? Maybe this will be helpful, but I had several indications that something was wrong before the drive failed on me. First, when I copied about 10 GB of data from my old hard drive to the new SSD drive, I got corruption in one of the large files. Second, my computer hanged several times for no reason. This happened when I left my computer on during the night. Power settings were set to high performance with no hibernate or standby enabled. Third, the night the drive failed, I actually created a batch file which writes the time to disk every few seconds. I believe that 5 hours later this batch file may have triggered the problem on the disk. If anyone is interested, the batch file code was something similar to this: @ECHO OFF :LOOP TIME /T >> TIMEFILE.TXT PING 1.1.1.1 GOTO :LOOP Now, what I would love to know is whether the new hard drives received after RMA are also affected or not? Was saving my new X256 to do a clean install of Windows 7 64 Bit on my Dell M6400 Covet. Just got my MS Action Pack copy and tried to install windows 7 -- 1/2 way through the install failed -- and the drive was no longer present in the bios and was not detected by the onboard raid Controller. Pwered down and rebooted several times -- and still no drive detected in the bios or by the raid controller. RAMGUY - Based on these posts -- looks like I have a defective drive as well. What do I need to do to get this drive replaced? Also -- has anyone received a replacement drive yet? If so -- was the replacement drive defective as well -- or has the issue been resolved? I reported my bad drive on 9/2/09. I would think that after 6-7 weeks, you would have some kind of response from the engineers. Has the problem been replicated? Is there any clue at all to what the problem could be? Any update at all? I've lost count as to how many people have had issues with this drive and find it fraudulent for corsair to continue to sell this expensive drive to people while it seems a significant number of people are having major issues. Seldom Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 This is getting anoying now. After two weeks of stable operation my desktop suddenly freezed. I had to do a cold reboot, after the system went up my drive has been disappeared again. No way to get it back, I also tried on another computer - the same issue happened with my first drive. The drive is from the same lot where exactly the same happened to me about four weeks ago. Although the drive was replaced relatively fast nobody is refunding my effort and time to get things installed twice or triple. @Ramguy: what do you recommend? Another RMA? Could I get the drive replaced by one of the performance series? Probably I have to pass through another RMA cycle before I could ask to get my drive refunded. I must say that I am very disappointed.
