Kaldanis
Hey everyone, I have the HX520W and things were fine for about a year. The past few months I've experienced random powerlosses, no blue screens or anything, the PC just shuts down. Sometimes it stays off for a while, sometimes it comes straight back on by itself. Sometimes the fans and lights will 'stutter' like it's trying to get power but can't. During the time it wouldn't come on I disconnected the DVDRW, Graphics card and HDD and it still 'stuttered'. I've also tested the RAM several times so this points towards the CPU, Motherboard or PSU. One thing I have noticed is that the fan on my HX520W is spinning considerably slower than the othe fans in my PC, to the point I can see it wobble where as the other fans just look like a fast blur. Could my powersupply be overheating and causing the random losses of power? Thanks for any help!
FEAR6655
The fans on all my Corsair spin really slowly, to the point of looking like shimmering or wobbling. If the PSU were overheating it would feel very hot to the touch.
Kaldanis
It feels warmish. If the fan sounds fine to you then I'm not really sure what to do. I don't have a spare PSU to test it, and I'm worried that I send mine back to Corsair they will test it during a time that it works fine and just send it back. :x
Kaldanis
Nevermind, it failed the paper clip test so there must be something wrong. :)
FEAR6655
How exactly did it fail the paperclip test? If it truly failed the paperclip test then the power supply would not even start the PC, are you sure you did it correctly? (not that it matters since the paperclip test isn't for instability problems).
Kaldanis
My PC randomly switches off so sometimes the power supply is fine. Yesterday, when my PC switched off and refused to come on, I quickly disconnected all components from the power supply and did the paper clip test. I had to do it quickly because as I said, power will come back on its own eventually, so I wanted to do it during a time it wasn't working. There was no power when I switched it on, so I double checked the paperclip was fully in and it was. So I just left it and waited, and about 2 minutes later the fan stuttered then came on.
