Dave76
Hello, I want to upgrade RAM in my Dell Inspiron 530. Is the Twin2X4096-6400C5 compatible with my current Dell memory? Currently installed: Total 4X1GB 2X1GB Nanya Tecnology Speed: 400 MHz (DDR2 800) Memory Timings: 6-6-6-18-24 at 400MHz, at 1.8 volts 2X1GB Hyundai Electronics Speed: 400 MHz (DDR2 800) Memory Timings: 6-6-6-18-24 at 400MHz, at 1.8 volts The RAM limit for my computer is 8GB. The Twin2X4096-6400C5 is the Dell recommended memory for my computer, from the Dell website. I want to replace one set of the 2X1GB with the Twin2X4096-6400C5, which will give me 6GB RAM. The Twin2X4096-6400C5 timings and voltages: CL5 ( 5-5-5-18 ), Supply Voltage 1.9 V. Is the different timings and voltages going to cause any problems for me if I run the 2X1GB already installed with the 2X2GB Corsair? Thanks for any help or opinions, Dave76

Dave76
Guaranteed-Compatible Memory for your Dell Inspiron 530 VS1GB667D2 Why do you want to go from 4 GB to 6 GB? Seems that most memory configurators don't take 64bit OS into consideration, they use the 32bit address limitation as the ceiling. Will the difference in timings and the .1 volt difference cause any problems? Thanks for the help, PS, I checked the memory configurator

Dave76
They're taking into consideration the PHYSICAL limitations of the motherboard. It won't support 2 GB sticks. The specs given by Dell are that my MOBO will take 2GB per slot, 4GB max for 32bit, and 8GB max for 64bit OS. Confirmed by SIW and CPUZ. 'Several' owners of the same box and MOBO have reported on the Dell forum that they are using 8GB. Do you think I should try it? I'm not worried about having an extra 4GB of RAM laying around (but won't do it if, it's not possible). Or is it 'not going to work'? I know the risks, and that it is best to match your RAM exactly if possible. Just thought I would try to find out if the small differences are in the 'try it' zone or in the 'won't work' zone. Dell does recommend this Twin2X4096-6400C5 for my specific (service tag) computer. Thanks for your time and input, Dave
