Abrupt system Shut Offs

I have Win Vista 64b, an EVGA X58 Mobo, Corsair Dominator Ram, i7965 not OCed yet because of these issues and an EVGA 285 2GB GPU.

My hard drive config is as follows:

P256 - Win Vista OS, Boot Drive, Programs

X128 - Game Drive

Raid 1 - 300gb 10k Raptor

I just got this system put together, and as you can see have stocked it with nearly $1000 in corsair SSDs. Imagine my displeasure when the system seems to abruptly stall or idle when a program is running or when some programs are accessed!

Imagine my increased displeasure at the prevelance of these errors:

Problem signature:

I'd say it has happened now 4 or 5 times in the last week. I never had this problem with the Raptors as the Boot or Primary Media. Even if the SSDs are not to blame, I can't continue to disregard the fact that both of them seem to stutter and clamp up on themselves periodically. Is that the trade off for the fast boot times? Periodic panic attacks?

Whether launching Farcry 2 or just shooting Japanese in World at War, more frequently than I am comfortable, the x128 presumably pauses for 2 seconds of what seems like an eternity when gaming.

For the main SSD, sometimes while launching Outlook or Dreamweaver, the system will audibly hang. I can't describe the sound, but the drive seems to make a sound when it hangs, maybe it is a click, I haven't listened closely to that yet.

I am left with saying WTF? What should I do? I am very displeased to say the least. I'd love to be able to rule out the SSDs for the BSODs, but does that excuse the hanging and stalls and hiccups?

  • 1 month later...

I've tried three different OSes, all from Fresh installs, and the problem follows me around.

Rending video, or gaming, it seems to randomly punch me when it matters most.

I've RMAd the video card, and the problem persists. I still do get stuttering performance on my X128, mostly in gaming where the screen will hang for 2 seconds and the return to live, like a faulty DVR. I have less issues on my P256.

Don't get me wrong, but it is as if I spend a grand and traded in damned fast (two 300gb Raptors) for screaming fast with pimples.

The black screen issue could be the power supply also, and I don't see any firmware issues yet for the X series.

I know this probably sounds dumb .... but have you run a memory test program to see if there is a problem with the memory?

What does your BSOD state when it happens (not the info from event manager as sometimes this is useless); i.e. irq_not_equal ..... kind of info?

Nice system BTW .... once you get it to work and rid yourself of this stress.
