wlcorey
HI all... Hoping that someone will be able to help... Just put together a new machine and can't seem to get the ram to run at anything over 1067mhz... I've changed the voltage to 1.66 and the multiplier to 12 but when I do the system won't even post... If anyone has any suggestions or knows the right settings for this mobo and ram PLEASE let me know.. Thanks
Yellowbeard
I've moved your post as it was buried at the end of a long thread and therefore easily overlooked. Try selecting the XMP profile in the BIOS.
wlcorey
Hi.. I tried that too... it set it to 1867mhz and I get the same results... no post.. I even left the settings from the xms option and changed the multiplier to 12 instead if 14...dropping the speed to 1600mhz and still have the same results...no post... any other suggestions would be a great help.. thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 9, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 9, 2009 Can you test the modules one at a time in the same slot and let us know the results?
wlcorey
So.... Did as you suggested...tested each module in slot 1.. 2 passes each with memtest86+ all 3 modules passed with no errors... What should I try next?? Thanks for all your help!!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 10, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 10, 2009 I would try setting the QPI voltage manually. We have seen that when you run memory higher than around 1600MHz you may need to play with the QPI voltage a little bit to find the ideal value for your particular CPU. I would start with it set at 1.35v and work your way up to about 1.5v and see if there is any improvement.
wlcorey
I will try that... Do you know what the other timings should set to?? I don't know where to set the others at when I am trying to run it at 1600mhz.. Again keep in mind that I really don't want to overclock the proc or memory, I just want it to run where it should not at 1067mhz... Thanks Again !! I really appreicate all the help!! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 10, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 10, 2009 Anything higher than 1066MHz is an overclocked spec with the core i7 920 CPU and you will technically need to overclock the CPU in order to run the memory at its rated speeds. Here are the manual settings which should be configured in the BIOS: Memory Voltage: 1.65v QPI Voltage: 1.6v Memory Frequency: 1866MHz TCL:7 TRCD: 8 TRP: 7 TRAS:
wlcorey
GREAT!! Do you have any suggestions on overclocking the CPU?? If there are reccomended or suggested settings for that as well, hopefully I'll be able to get this rig working... Thanks Again
wlcorey
Ok.. So I set the ram as follows... Memory Voltage: 1.65v QPI Voltage: 1.5v Memory Frequency: 1600MHz TCL:7 TRCD: 8 TRP: 7 TRAS: 20 And the pc boots into windows just fine....but... I run cpu-z to check that all is well and I find that the Max bandwith is showing as PC3-10700H (667 MHZ) and the part number is CM3X2G1866C7GT... Is that what it is supposed to be??? I thought that the part number was TR3X6G1866C7GTF... Please advise me on this and let me know if this is right or not....maybe I ended up with the wrong part number or possibly a mixup somewhere Thanks
Wired
TR3X6G1866C7GTF = part # of kit (3 sticks) CM3X2G1866C7GT = part # of single stick
wlcorey
Hey Wired... Thanks for that quick reply... that makes sense...I wasn't looking that deep into it I guess... At least I know that I have what I paid for... Thanks
wlcorey
So one last time.... The first settings that I posted worked ok, but while running memtest the pc locked up and gave me all kinds of errors..... so I set the memory as follows.... Memory Voltage: 1.65v QPI Voltage: 1.45v Memory Frequency: 1600MHz TCL:7 TRCD: 7 TRP: 7 TRAS: 20 Two Passes on memtest and all seems to be ok.. gonna let it run overnight to be sure... I'll post the result in the morning... Again I can say enough how helpfull you guys have been.....Thanks!!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 14, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 14, 2009 NP and with CPU-Z you would look in the memory tab to see what the memory is actually running at.
