Armada
I have 2x TWIN2X2048-8500C5D (4x1GB), one set is revision 1.6 and the other is revision 6.1. They give no memtest errors individually or when all inserted, but I have all kinds of problems (MEMMORY_MANAGEMENT bluescreens, file corruption, etc.) that are related to memory errors. When I take either of the sets out the problems are gone. I've set the timings to the ones indicated on the modules (5-5-5-15) and increased the (G)MCH voltage with +0.05. But it still won't work. Wired
This is why it's not recommended to mix versions (ICs). Some memory controllers don't like doing it.

Yellowbeard
Ideally, a 2 x 2GB set of memory is the best way to get a 4GB memory set up. Other than that, you can speak to your vendor and try to get a matching assistance getting a 2 x 1GB kit that matches one of your existing kits. Armada
A friend of mine has the same RAM setup but other versions. He's running v1.2 and v5.1 completely stable. So we tried exchanging some RAM to get 2 working setups. The v5.1 and v6.1 combination worked perfectly fine in my computer. But whichever combination contained v1.6 would crash the computer without any memtest errors (It can pass for hours but when used in Windows it causes problems), we tried those combinations on both computers. So I think the v1.6 has a bad part.
