Dan Dolan
I am building a video editing machine and have 2 TR3X6G1600C8D kits for a total of 12 GB of ram. This is to be installed on an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard with an i7 920 CPU. Reading the ASUS manual for the motherboard, there are conflicting disclaimers that say; 1) “Due to the Intel spec definition, DDR3-1600 are supported for one DIMM per channel only.” 2) “ASUS exclusively provides two DDR3-1600 DIMM support for each memory channel”, 3) “To obtain the best performance for 1600Mhz DIMM, install only one DIMM on each memory channel.” I see conflicting opinions about loading 6 sticks of 1600 ram, so I am considering my options. Any ideas? I can exchange the ram for 1333 if I have to.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 19, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 19, 2009 Just run them at DDR1333 and DDR1333 would be suggested for that part when you mix two sets!
Wired
It's possible, just not guaranteed. Why not just get a 12 GB kit (HX3X12G1600C9) instead of 2 non-matched sets?
Dan Dolan
Damn. I guess I should have just bought the 1333 to begin with. Thanks for the comments.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 19, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 19, 2009 With two Twin sets of DDR1333 DDR1066 would be suggested.
Dan Dolan
Ram Guy, do you agree with Wired that it would be better to have the HX3X12G1600C9, over the 2 - TR3X6G1600C8D dominator kits? It seems that the answer is probably yes. My original kits are not yet opened, so I can return these to Newegg in exchange for the other set, and get some money back. Given the number of threads that talk about problems with the 1600 ram, it seems that the HX3X12G100C( might be the best way to go. Thanks for the help. I am out of my depth here but its been fun coming up the curve.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 22, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 22, 2009 Yes as I said if you use two sets then you will have to run them at DDR1333 so go with the 12 Gig set.
