TheJeffDotNet
So I just got a P256 and I am loving it. I am just having a weird issue. Randomly disk activity will stop for around 10-20 seconds and lock up any application trying to access the file system. Any ideas? Jeff
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 17, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 17, 2009 How did you get the O.S. on this drive? Was it a fresh install or did you use the image CD's that came with your system? And do you have all of the updates installed?
TheJeffDotNet
I used SuperDuper which copies all of the non-system-specific files. http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html This is a MacBook Pro so there is no image CDs. And I have all of the updates installed. I also used Disk Utility to Verify the Disk and it came up good. This is weird, never had it happen. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 17, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 17, 2009 You might try another utility like Ghost or Acronics Disk Image.
TheJeffDotNet
I have used this software many times with copying data and have no problems so I don't think that is the issue. Any other ideas?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 17, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 17, 2009 There is no other way to know until you try something else. Did you ask Apple about that software? Or if there are any known issues using the O.S. like that?
TheJeffDotNet
I haven't talked to apple but I know a couple other people who have close to the exact setup that I have. I have ordered a replacement so once I get transfered over to that drive I will let you know if it fixes the issue. Jeff
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 19, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 19, 2009 Let's get it replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it.
TheJeffDotNet
Thanks! Yeah, I tried that but you guys don't have any P256s in stock and it would take a couple weeks to get the hard drive. You guys might want to look into keeping some in stock for support issues like this. But gladly the great guys at NewEgg.com were able to work with me and get me a replacement HD in the mail. Thanks for your help!

amro
btw i used superduper as well when i migrated from my old drive to my p256 and it worked fine (unibody mbp late 2k8 i guess?)
TheJeffDotNet
Yep, 2008 unibody macbook pro. I took it to apple and then ran a full diagnostic and we couldn't get the errors to go away. I guess there is a issue between my model MacBook Pro and the P256. Jeff
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 6, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 6, 2009 Jeff I will have our SSD Product manager look at this on Monday, but I have heard of no issues with Mac as long as you have the latest Version of the O.S. You are using Leopard Correct?
TheJeffDotNet
Thank you so much! I think it might be a heat issue. When using my computer in a freezing cold room the issue did not happen until I left that room because my toes were frozen.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 6, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 6, 2009 If heat seems to have something to do with it then I would suspect that its the storage controller on the motherboard getting too hot, and not the SSD itself. The SSD can only actively consume 1.5 watts of power so even if 100% of the power were converted to heat, it would be unlikely that the drive would be the cause of an overheating issue. My best guess would be that the storage controller is acting as a bottleneck and heating up as its trying to keep up with the bandwidth of the P256. If you believe the drive to be defective, then we can try replacing it for you, however from what I have seen, I would suspect that the drive itself is not the cause of the problems. TheJeffDotNet
As for the heat issue, I never had any issue other than with the SSD in my computer. I have had a process that was running on my computer (when I had the "normal" HD) once that was making it much hotter than it was with the SSD in my computer and did not have any of these issues pop up. I also spent over 2 hours with Apple at their store when they did a deep hardware diagnosis of the computer and it showed no issues. I have actually gotten a replacement SSD from NewEgg and it did the same thing. What sucks now is that I am stuck with a expensive HD that does not work with my computer. I e-mailed your customer support all this info to try to get some help rectifying this issue last Wendesday but have not heard anything back. I would either like to get this HD working in my computer (since I can't just replace my computer) or help returning this product to NewEgg or you guys since NewEgg has a no-return policy on this HD.
