flapane
Hi I have found this Value ram VS1GSDS400 in a local shop for 30 bucks. I was wondering if I can safely remove the old 512mb pc2700 module and install that one without haivng issues (ibook 1.33ghz 12'' mid 2005) Thanks in advance
Wired
It's not listed in the Corsair Compatibility Site, so I'd go with whatever Apple recommends.
flapane
I can't see iBook in that configurator.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 15, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 15, 2009 That is what Wired stated we do not have your system listed and that you should use the memory that was suggested from Apple.
flapane
Ah ok, thanks. I couldn'f find anything in the forum, how sad, 30eur is a good price, almost a half than the common Apple's reccomended XXXXXXXX ram.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 15, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 15, 2009 Sorry but that is not uncommon with Apple or any OEM system for that fact!
flapane
Looking at the photo, it has all the 8 chips on an unique side, isn't it (the reccomended one has 4 bigger chips on a side, so I suppose that there are 8 chips in total, on 2 sides)? I posted on Apple's board too, let's hope I get some answers. edit: The fact that the 512mb pc2700 works does matter?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 16, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 16, 2009 You are welcome to try it but many of the older Mac's took special Ram so I would check with Apple to be sure.
flapane
They aren't very clear on Rams as usual and only reccomend a brand. 30 eur could worth the risk, I'll report my experience here if I'm gonna buy it.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 17, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 17, 2009 Normally they require memory made with By 4 memory IC's that are un buffered and we only use By 8 Memory IC's so I suspect that our module will not work with that system. flapane
Did you miss an "8" before the second Memory IC, or didn't I get what you said?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 17, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 17, 2009 Yes I did sorry!
flapane
This was my only doubt as exposed in 12:46 AM post. Luckily the law could let me bring back an item for whatever reason, even if I don't like the package colour, in the next 10 days, and they must refund me, but I really wouldn't do this... flapane
Looking on a forum, there's a guy who succesfully installed a... Famous-Brand 1gig stick. I looked at the photo and there were 8 chips on the same side. Could it be a hope?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 17, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 17, 2009 The way they look will have little to do with the actual configuration, IE a module made with By 4 memory IC will look the same as one made with by 8's but the MB or chipset would address them differently.
