I second MR Armageddon's request for more pics. Can we please have some pics of the inside? That would be very helpful in deciding it this case is worth the wait. More detailed pictures will definitely give some of us Corsair fans more fuel to help our patience and more excitement to wait for the case to come out so we'll be more likely to buy.

I am pretty sure this case is worth the wait, but I'm not gonna be too happy if I find out it's not going to work for my needs and that I waited for two months only to miss out on a certain competitor's 25% off 4th of July sale to find out that I was going to have to go with said competitor's case anyways.

I'm confident that I won't be disappointed, but what could be the harm in sending an engineering sample to a 3rd party for testing (until that happens this is really just "vaporware") or at least getting us some better shots of the inside?

I don't presume to know more than you guys about marketing but this is different than releasing a computer game, like StarCraft 2, for example. We've only got one source for that game: Blizzard, and it's not like there are many direct competitors. Are there other RTS games? Yes, but there are MILLIONS of StarCraft fans that will wait however long they have to and still buy SC2 when it comes out. There have been no other games quite like starcraft or warcraft III released even recently that capture the quality and storyline of those two games. Blizzard has their customers in the bag.

Corsair also has probably millions of fans for their RAM and power supplies because their stuff is top notch. Who out there has RAM like the Dominator series? And how about these new modular PSUs that recently came out with the low profile all black cables. There's nothing else like them.

The case market is different right now. There are LOTS of full tower cases out there, ranging in all kinds of prices, some with windows, some with more external bays than this one (5 external bays really is weak for an enthusiast full tower), and many can be easily modded to look and operate more like this Corsair case.

You've announced it and shown some great teaser videos, and there has been some real "buzz" out and about, but I almost snagged that competitor case on their weekend. There were probably some people that actually did buy it, too. This is just speculation, but I don't want you guys to wait too long and miss out on some potential customers or some of the "buzz" this case is generating right now.

But who knows. Maybe waiting is good and the economy is going to bounce back in September and you'll sell a million when you release it then. I just don't know how long some of us are going to be able to hold out ...

I'm probably going to wait as long as it takes because I'm pretty sure you've got it right, but I don't know that everyone else is going to be that patient if they need to get their builds going. And you've recently come out with some great products that could very nicely coincide with this case.

Considering it was shown at Computex and that specmike's got an engineering sample, it's not vaporware. Then again, people are reported to have seen the Phantom console as well lol!

Whn did you all first start to hear about the case? That would be the starting point to figure out when the "hype" started, and marketing, and all that, etc.

Now since I have a captive audience here, anyone have recommendation for the forums? No one ever frakking responds to the threads about it.

I am glad that you have invited us to comment on this case, but most of us that are active on this thread already have made comments, and it seems like Corsair is listening, which is cool. But keeping on posting invitations here might not bring in much additional outside feedback. Maybe posting the link to this thread on sites like Youtube, etc. where the videos and previews are posted would be a good way.

First thing I heard about it was when it popped up on the website, but I don't know if it was announced before then. Seems like a lot of people want the case, but have time frames on their mind due to various reasons (personal schedules, impatience, etc). Just trying to gauge how long others have known about it to see if it's the former, the latter, or something else. Then again, I have no idea how long it is between announcements and actual availability for most products. Hell, my real life job is to prevent people from shooting themselves in the foot (so to speak), so what do I know :)

Personally, I can't wait to see an engineering pop out diagram of the whole thing. My #1 concern with the case is actually the feet of all things.

As for asking for comments, if you meant something other than the above, I started the thread because I saw something new and shiny on the website that I thought others here may want to know about :) If you meant the forum comments, I meant about the actual forum itself :)

The front looks so smooth and elegant now, absoloutely beautiful. It would be a shame to ruin it with holes.

You can take your cover plates out if you want though ;)

Why not leave a small gap for air to flow? around the outer edge of the cage in the front... barely noticible, but it would leave room to draw air in...

I would love to see 2x120 fan spacing in the bottom so I can cram another radiator in there without modding :)

I just have a question about the control panel and the power button. On each and every photo I saw about the Corsair Obsidian, the power button looks like very cheap plastic. But I can't imagine any plastic in the front for such a price.

Also, the control panel looks like cheap plastic either. Or at least the borders of the 5.25 inch drive bay covers.

I hope it isn't plastic, or at least not kinda that cheap, as it looks like on the photos.

Good evening!

Edit: In Germany it's just about 8:00 PM :D.

Gee wally, I know that or one would already be in route.
Sorry, no way for me to know specifically what you know, or to know if you had read any part of the thread. I merely commented on your post and directed you to where the answers lie.

To all: If you have issues one way or another with someone's post, please report the thread or PM me directly instead of replying to them.

I guess the biggest thing is having 8 expansion slots. Many of the premium boards are coming with 8 slots to accomodate a PCIe sound card, triSLI as well as PhysX.

Most likely to late to get that added.

Question on the top plate: What spacing is used? PA120.3 or for a Fesser/GTX360?

Well, they used an XSPC RX360 in their computex build, so you can probably compare its dimensions to the rad you plan on using. I bought a Feser X-Changer 360 to use with the Obsidian once it's released, and I don't anticipate any problems (especially now that they've switched to 15mm fan spacing instead of 17).

The 8th expansion slot is actually kind of included. We've perforated the hole in the back of the case for a low-hanging GPU exhaust, and added the mount in the motherboard. It was the best way to make it compatible.

You can kind of see it at work in this image from Computex:

The third card hangs lower than the motherboard and exhausts out through the 8th slot. It works fine in practice and was teh fastest way to get it done without retooling the entire back of the case.

I saw that from the outside but I could not tell from the video and pics what it looked like in that area on the inside...

From that pic it looks like there is proper support on the inside as well. Very nice.

Very smart.

It really only needs to be exhaust right there for a dual slot physx card or tri-SLI something or other. Nicely done. That will accommodate a good number more of x58 enthusiast builds this way.

I think that the Obsidian 800D has a really dull frontal view. The interior i must say is real sexy. Imagine a babe with real hot body but the face looks boring, abit of a turn off right? It would be perfect if front face view can combine rugged industrial looks with some aggressive styling. Perhaps front bezel mesh allowing a little peekaboo into the inside or LED fans could make Obsidian 800D a casing to die for. Thumbs up for the designers though. Plenty of useful and well thought of features. Enough to make me lust but not enough for me to make the first move.

WD corrected the velociraptors with a backplane-compatible version:

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=495

I'm not sure on the buy-it direct or pre-order stuff, I'll post more info when I get a shot.

Well, I can't seem to find were I can buy that version of the drive or some kind of kit to convert mine that I currently have to those, which seems to leave me with 3 options.

A. Unbolt mine from the heat sinks and attach them to the trays something like the SSD article posted.

B. Purchase new hard drives, maybe some SSD's

C. Grab the air saw and cut all that backplane area out.

Unless there is something I am missing some were.

Either way guess it's still a ways off, before I'll be able to get my hands on one to see.

As much as I love Corsair and their new fancy case (no sarcasm, Corsair really does rock), I saw an offer on the ATCS 840 that I couldn't refuse, and I have a buddy that has years of experience cutting metals and access to a high end machine shop. He's offered to help me cut whatever kind of side window I want, and I recently learned how easy it is to paint the inside black, and how nice it looks/feels if you use the right paint a do a careful job.

Corsair is just taking too long, and I want to have something WC ready. My particular Lian Li just isn't quite ideal for watercooling and decent cable management. If this case was out right now, I'd be buying it, even though it's over $100 more than what I paid tonight for the other case I ordered, but I can't wait forever.

I was going to go with the new HX850 or possibly 1000 to match better and have the thinner black modular cabling, but again, I probably won't get that either, as I have a 1000w modular that works just fine. Because of the way the 840 is set up i don't think having a bottom fan PSU is quite as important as it would be in the Corsair case. If you stick another radiator or more watercooling equipment down there, especially with the divider panel, I don't know that the current configuration would give the PSU quite as much air, but with the 840 the front intake and 120mm fans you can put behind the hard drive cage will feed in plenty of air, both into the case and directly into the PSU.

I still think this case is going to rock the world of full tower cases, and make it super easy to get into some mean watercooling. It just doesn't fit my time table. Maybe I'll still get one around Christmas, we'll see, but I'm definitely not buying two now or in the near future. I just can't hold off this partucular build any longer.

Now if it shows up on Newegg.com tomorrow I'm gonna be mad .... :D: JK!!

(btw, if I'm violating some rules or something by mentioning a competitor product, sorry. But I don't see how it's competition yet because the Obsidian isn't even out yet! You're biggest competitor right now on this case is your own timetable.)
