Obsidian Series 800D Case online

Indeed it looks like a masterpiece, i can't wait to get my hands on it. I've never been hyped about a case before, i just picked up something solid and roomy(usually a chieftec), to then modify it to my needs. But the Obsidian already meets all my needs, and then some.

Thanks for the pics Mike!

Thanks for the update Mike, the Ramguy was wrong on this one. I don't think the original design had the mounting holes, but the current one certainly does!

George had to crack some heads and make a couple people walk the plank. It all fell in line after that! ::pirate::

I'm planning on buying the case when it comes out, however, I am curious about the radiator hole spacing at the top of the case. How far apart are the holes? Are the holes elongated to support a wide variety of radiators? I know certain brands of radiators have their fan hole spacing different than other brands. I am just curious to what the case will support so that I can better plan out what I will be using in the future when I do get this case.

Thanks!

I really want this case bad, but I have a few questions:

1. Can you describe or post a picture that shows where each fan is and the size of the fan? For instance, is the rear exhaust fan 140mm just like the intake fan that pulls air from the bottom of the case?

2. Any thoughts to selling a separate solid top kind of like the solid side panel you will be selling?

3. I have read complaints about your PSUs smelling really bad from the paint. Will this case have the same problem??

Great job guys and awesome first case for sure!!!! :)

1. I'm hoping they release a blown out diagram sheet like some of the other case manufacturers.

3. I have an HX620W and HX1000W and neither smell. In fact, no one's ever said here that the paint smells from the PSUs at all. Some do smell the internal components after they heat up for the first time.

This isn't directed towards anyone in particular, just a rant:

WTF is up with the idiots on other forums that complain about every little thing under the sun about a product, but NEVER tell the manufacturer / post here about it? How do people expect things to be fixed without informing someone about it? AARRRGGGHHH!!!

Well, most customers think that companies don't give a **** and once the product is out the door it's not worth it for them to fix anything so they don't even bother with complaining/feedback most of the time. And sadly, more often than not they're right.

They'll complain ad infinitum on other forums, but not on the manufacturers' forums? Seriously, it's like all of those people who demand change, that they want their local gov't representatives to do something different, and they'll complain to anyone who will listen... but they don't vote and they don't send a letter or anything.

It's not like it's hard to register for yet another forum, or to shoot off an email lol.

Ok, we understand that there are some changes being made that will cause a few delays in the release date. That is fine, and we like the fact that Corsair seems to be listening to customer feedback and trying to improve the case before it launches.

But, these delays are making things rough on those of us who were expecting a late June / early July release date as stated at CompuTex. We are willing to wait for a quality product to come to market, but if we are to wait until a possible September release date, we need some more fuel to keep the anticipation going until then.

I personally am deciding between two cases, the 800D being one of them. The other case is already available, so I need some additional reasons to wait it out for the 800D. I think the 800D is an amazing case, and almost perfect for what I want in a PC case. But I still have a few questions, most of which could be answered by posting more pictures of the inside of the case, especially in the area of the lower hard drive rack (I want to see how easy it will be to remove it and install a second radiator there). So, to end this long post.... More pictures of the inside of the case please. :D:

Patience is virtue, my friend. Now, while i would also love some new pictures, and i'm sure i'm not alone with that, i don't need them to keep me interrested in this case just because it will come out a month or two later, So please don't speak in the name of all of us (i assume that's what the plural in your post means, unless you have multiple identities). No offense meant though, it was just bugging me a bit and i couldn't help myself.

In the second part of your post, you drifted onto a rather specific question: the lower 3.5" drive bay. About that: Hopefully SpecMike will drop by sometime and show some pics of that, but personally i highly doubt that you can fit a 120mm rad in there at all, let alone easily!

I said we because I do in fact have a few other friends monitoring this thread, and they feel the same way, so my use of plural in this case is justified, even if you may not agree with what was posted, or if it doesn't apply specifically to you.

The second part of my post was meant to be specific. I plan on doing 2 liquid cooling loops in my next build. One loop will consist of a 3x120 fan radiator on the top of the case, and the second loop will be using a 240 Radiator, which I would mount on the bottom of the case, as is seen here:

If the bottom hard drive cage and cage retaining area can be completely removed, even if it requires me to remove rivets, great. If I have to whip out my Dremel tool to make the radiator fit, I will. But I need to see more pictures in order to determine if that type of mod is even possible.

Lets say I don't get an answer to my question and end up waiting for more detailed pics via some 3rd party review, sometime in September. If I find out that there is no way, even with modding, to fit the radiator in the bottom, then I have just wasted 2 months waiting for a case that won't work for me, when I could have bought a different case that is already available and had my new build housed inside it for a good 2 months now.

So that is my dilemma. I really like this case, and would love it to house my next build. I am willing to wait if I know that it will fit my needs, and a few more detailed pictures (or engineering drawings :D:) of that specific area would help me in solidifying my decision to wait for the release. I doubt that any of the re-tooling that is happening has to do with the area in question, so pics of the current "demo" case would work fine. Thanks.

Ah, i see.

Yeah, the lower HD cage in the Obsidian is parallel to the case not across like on your pics, so that side is not quite as wide. Looks to me like you might have to get that thing out of there. It's probably just riveted there though.

Have your friends post here! Many voices in unison is more powerful than one voice. Who knows, if enough ask for this change, maybe they'd push the case back a bit to satisfy the consumers.

As for the release date, I could've sworn I saw a Computex video where an exec guessed August.

One more idea that would elminate frustration for us customers ;)

Anywhere you have a 140mm fan mount in the case, also have holes for a 120mm fan. Why you ask? Well, for some reason, fan manufacturers are coming out with 140mm fans that only have 120mm mounting holes. Yeah...I dont really get it either.

Thanks! :D

I have not seen the final tooling sample (cuz it's not done yet) , but on my sample I have here, the grill at the back of the case beside the I/O panel has both 120mm and 140mm mounting holes.

One of them has already posted on this thread, Sir Kronan.

Both of these videos taken during Computex state a late June / early July release date.

But the rep also stated that it was just an engineering sample and that there may be additional tooling that had to take place before the final model would ship, so he got his disclaimer in.

I just really want more detailed info/pics about the case. I am willing to wait, but obviously the sooner the better.

Says August in this video. The guy in those videos (and the one above) is Rob. Sounds like Jeff Bridges to me :)

Ultimately I'd stick with what Apps Lab said:

Right now I'm comfortable saying Q3, 2009. That's anywhere from July 1st to September 30th. I know it's a big gap, I'm trying to narrow it down. Every week I'm pulling in the date a little bit closer.

Good to hear! I sure hope the rest of the fan mounts are the same. That would be seriously cool! (pun intended?)

Okay...another question now (might as well since the case probably wont be ready anytime soon heh)...

Are the case feet made out of metal? Rubber? Plastic? Would like to see metal with maybe some rubber strips at the bottom to dampen noise vibration.

Hi ppl

I have an suggestion for the case

Those plates that cover the CD-Rom 5.25 bays, should be perforated to improve airflow, like you can see for example here on the TT Armor and also with the filters, to try to stop the dust coming in.

What do you think of this idea?

Regards from Portugal ;):
