gk004
Hello all! Yesterday I decided to upgrade to 4GB so I bought another 2GB kit of the same model (TWIN2X2048-8500C5D) however when I installed the extra 2 modules the machine put itself a loop: spin-up, shut down, until I turn off the PSU. No POST, no BIOS access, nothing. I've tried the obvious: - Tried the new modules alone - they work fine - Tried the other pair of slots two at a time - seems fine - Tried 3 modules - fine - 4 modules - as explained above, not fine. Are there any suggestions? I'm getting very stressed about this :(
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 13, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 13, 2009 If you are trying to run with 4 modules did you try this? With 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR667 and set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts and set the NB/MCH/SPP Voltage to +.2 Volts as well and test the system with http://www.memtest.org. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
gk004
If you are trying to run with 4 modules did you try this? Yes, I tried it yesterday, but unfortunately it didn't help either. :[pouts: I'll try to go to +0.3V for the NB but I'm afraid it'll be too high. Also I noticed that one of the kits is ver1.5 the other is ver4.1. Might that be the problem?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 14, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 14, 2009 What are you setting the memory frequency to? and please if you can take a Picture and post it for the NB/MCH Voltage and tell me the exact settings you had set. But yes if they are the same version there is a lot better chance of getting them to work 4 up.
gk004
I set the fequency to 800 manually. (FSB 333 by default, I did not overclock). The (G)MCH voltage +.2V, FSB voltage +.2V, DDR2 voltage +.3V (2.1V) Anyway I'll try to mach the version of the kits somehow, worth a try.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 15, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 15, 2009 The memory frequency will need to be set to DDR667 or 333 MHz with 4 modules.
gk004
The memory frequency will need to be set to DDR667 or 333 MHz with 4 modules. This is the only option I did not try. However I managed to replace the four modules. Now I have 2x2GB and everything works just fine. According to this page <LINK REMOVED BY STAFF> the versions are completed with different types of ICs which could be the origin of the problem. Thanks for the support anyway! Those links are usually wrong, however if the version # changes (e.g. 4.x, 5.x), so does the IC. There's an OFFICIAL list in the stickies in the Enthusiast section of the forum.
