umax
Hi, I have just bought a new hx1000 which replaced my hx620 that was used in my data server. The thing is that hx1000 wont power up the board via 4pin cables. I have tried both of 4pin (combined 8pin) and the additional 4+4pin cable that I have pluged into one of the blue sockets on psu with no luck to boot up the system. Then I have re-tried the hx620 and the server has booted up normally. What should I do? I'm from Slovenia and have bought the psu on the net from germany, should I ship it back to the store or directly to corsair? Can I exchange it my country, is warranty valid through European Union? My motherboard is Asus P5BV/SAS with intel C2D E7300.. EDIT; I have forgot to add that all hdd's & fans does spin up, just there is no light on the MB and monitor does not recevie any signal since the board does not post
umax
ok, tested the PSU in my other rig (gaming) and it boots up normally. it seams that that particular MB (Asus P5BV/SAS) is causing problem, but what is the difference between hx620 which works and hx1000 that dont want to POST on P5BV/SAS?? im knocking my head off, how can be possible that is working on other rig and not on my server. is MB non-compatible with PSU? is that even possible? well, if I could not solve this I need to look for other 800-1000W psu, but I really like my hx620 so thats why I went with hx1000. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 4, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 4, 2009 I would first make sure you have the latest BIOS for the Asus P5BV/SAS and then load setup defaults in the BIOS. You may also want to detach everything from the motherboard that isn't 100% necessary and see if you can get anything to come up on the screen with a "bare bones" setup. I would suspect that if the PSU is working in a different system then the PSU is not defective, but if it looks like a replacement may resolve the issues then please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it. Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.”
umax
Hi RAM GUY, Thanks for the answer. The PSU seams fine as it was now tested on three other systems with no problem. I have went thru all bios versions (system default) already, with all the other power sources detached except 24 pin atx & 4 pin mobo cables.. Have tried all the combinations with 4+4pin cables (the main one non-modular, and the modular one on all four pci-e sockets). On asus forum they said that it might be the timings that are causing this, but I must admit that Im not expert on psu related stuff. Is it possible that you can specify me what is different between hx620 & hx1000 that it might be causing this? I know from jonnyguru site that hx1000 is basically 2×500w psu, so is anything different related wiring, timings, etc? Also, I might get away with 850W version, but I must be sure that it would work. Problem is that I must order this online and import them, so its almost impossible to get return if it not work on specific board. Thanks again. btw, here is my thread on asus forums; http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20090503013304331&board_id=1&model=P5B-V&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 5, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 5, 2009 Other than the HX1000 being a dual 12v rail design there are no other major differences that would effect the functionality of the unit. Here is a diagram which shows you which connectors draw power from which 12v rail: http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=3676&stc=1&d=1213300906 All of our PSUs are designed to meet ATX specifications and are backwards compatible back to ATX12v 2.01. I would suspect that your motherboard supports this spec, but Asus may be able to tell you for sure. At this point it seems like there is a compatibility issue between the motherboard and the HX1000, and it could come down to an issue where a certain power timing is slightly off. I have no reason to suspect that the TX850 would not work since the HX620 is working, however I would have suspected that the HX1000 would work without any issues. umax
Now Im really confused. Today my mate came with his hx1000 and guess what, the system booted up with no problem. I really dont know whats wrong with my hx1000, since it will not boot/post the Asus P5BV/SAS mobo, but will post on Asus Rampage II Gene and Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe. What to do now? Is it possible to exchange the hx1000? In the meantime I have already bought TX850W which works np.. So I have an extra hx1000 that I have no use of it. Is it possible to exchange it for something else, like RAM?
