multipotential
Hey, this flash drive is running really slowly for me. I got it a few months ago and haven't used it since then. I looked through this forum, and I used the two programs prescribed in this thread: http://www.asktheramguy.com/v3/showthread.php?t=77843 Test results after format: http://students.etsu.edu/ZALB77/images/test1.png What can I do? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 23, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 23, 2009 Those results are about average for the 16 Non GT Flash Voyager.
multipotential
Hm, I was afraid of that since I had no idea what those numbers meant. So okay, perhaps I should be a bit more specific. When I try to transfer a 3.5MB folder (400 small files) onto the flash drive, it takes about 5min. When I move over a single 46MB file it only takes a few seconds. Why is performance so terrible sometimes but acceptable other times? Does it have to do with the small files? Is there anyway to overcome this? Wired
It's due to the many small files. More I/O overhead I'd guess.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 23, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 23, 2009 Yes that is it, with smaller files it can take up to 10 Times longer depending on the number of files and the actual file size. It has to write in the FAT table for every file so one file that is larger will take a lot less time then 100 files about the same total size.
