AMDtje
Hello RAM guy, I bought a kit of TWIN2X4096-6400C5. It are 2 dimms of 2 GB each. The problem is as follows: My PC won't post when I put the dimms in a dual channel configuration, meaning slot A1 and slot B1 or slot A2 and slot B2. When I put them both in the yellow or black slots, my PC won't post (dual channel) When I configure them to single channel, I have no problems. I even overlocked the dimms to 900 Mhz without any problem. I have read and googled alot and this is what i already have done: 1) Updated my bios to 2002 (the latest one) --> didn't work 2) Put each DIMM in slot A1 and see if I could boot. The results are ok, I can boot so the dimms should be ok. (should do a memtest to be sure) 3) I have raised my NB voltage to 1.30 and even 1.40 but this wouldn't make my PC to post. --> didn't work 4) tried to configure the timings manually in BIOS --> didn't work Do you have any idea what I can try, expect for the memtest? I can't believe the DIMMS are faulty because they work without any problems on single channel. Either the MB is damaged or the DIMMS just are not compatible with this MB. I really need dual channel because my games will stutter (expecially GTA4 (I know it's buggy)). With my system I have a good framerate but the memory just can't keep up with my quadcore. My E6600 @ 3,2 ghz with 4x1 gb 800Mhz in dual channel IS faster then my current system in GTA 4. I hope for a quick response.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 22, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 22, 2009 If the modules will run and pass http://www.memtest.org one at a time either module, but it will not even post when in D/C I would check the MB out of the case to check for a grounding issue then RMA the MB. Hi Ram Guy, Seems that this strange thing isn't quite simple to solve... I went to the store where I bought my MB. They tested it with another CPU but with the SAME memory. Guess what? It did work without any problem. I spent 2 hours in total at the store and they don't quite seem to get the problem. They didn't want to RMA my MB because they say it worked without problems, and it is. In single channel I don't have any problem. My CPU isn't also the problem because he already worked in dual channel with other corsair memory. Ofcours it was another MB. They think the only way to solve it, is to put different memory in the board, not 800Mhz but at least 1066 Mhz. They think the CPU cannot work in dual channel with 800Mhz RAM. I think it's crap but at least it's a way to go. I never had this issue before. I keep you updated if faster memory will do the trick. DerekT
Dual Channel Mode is a function of the memory controller, not the memory. For memory to fulfil the Dual Channel requirements of the memory controller, it must have matched SPD and Ranks. If you pass Single Channel Mode and fail Dual channel mode, the issue is the motherboard's memory controller and an RMA of the mainboard is necessary. Point "them" to this thread if necessary. If the memory controller has a problem, how can you explain that the MB WORKS in dual channel with this corsair memory??????? All they did was put in another CPU. If it would be broken the test would be negative as well but it isn't. So I don't think it is broken. If I would put in another CPU, then I would be able to boot in dual channel without any problems using the same memory. I am going to try the test with the faster memory and if that does not work, I will contact ASUS for support. And then I'll try again an RMA of the MB. I also can't seem the find someone else with the same specs. I also googled but didn't find anyone using the same combination of hardware. Anyway thanks for responding and I'll keep you informed. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 27, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 27, 2009 I do not have a problem replacing the modules but I am not sure the memory is the issue. But you're welcome to try it. Let's get them replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them.
AMDtje
Ram Guy, It seems that I have found the problem. Everybody was shocked because it is the power supply! Lucky for me it is a corsair TX750 power supply. I want to RMA this power supply. Is this a problem since I also can go to the store where I bought it? I hope you will be quicker. It is my only power supply so I won't have a PC for weeks ... Can't I just deliver it to corsair in belgium or the netherlands? I want to have my power supply back as soon as possible. I live in Belgium, so can you tell me how the RMA works? Will somebody pick up my power supply? Or do I have to deliver it somewhere? I read the FAQ but that didn't satisfy me... Thanks for responding to this message.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 8, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 8, 2009 Get the RMA and they will give you an address where to ship it to normally in Norway I think or you can try the reseller and ee what they say.
