ABitRusty
I'm in the process of configuring my new system. I just came across a potential problem and would like an expert opinion. I can't find an answer anywhere on the web. I want to buy the ASUS M3A78-T mobo. The CPU heatsink is the Noctua NH-C12P http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=18&lng=en. I want the CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX 4-4-4-12. It seems that -- because of all involved heatsinks -- the RAM will only fit in the two slots farthest away from the CPU. Even then, it is very likely that some part of the RAM heatsink will touch the CPU heatsink. My question: Will the contact with the CPU heatsink impact the function / life of the RAM in any way? I'd very much appreciate an answer to this exact question. I did extensive research on all parts and I'm not looking for recommentations for alternatives. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 2, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 2, 2009 If its just close and not touching it will not hurt them but if they are touching you may want to use some nylon tape to isolate them.
ABitRusty
Thank for your recommendation -- or is this really a requirement and the RAM would actually be harmed, if they touch? I just want to be sure I understand what to look for or avoid.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 3, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 3, 2009 No normally they would not have current but if something shorts and the CPU is touching it could maybe hurt the CPU or MB.
