using TW3X4G1333C9DHX and TW3X4G1600C9DHX together?

Hello everyone. This is a silly question but here goes. I currently use the TW3X4G1333C9DHX memory kit in my system and run it at 1333 MHz, linked and synced. I have had no instability issues and find it very good in all. But recently I have decided to have a go at overclocking this memory. My motherboard is a good overclocking board and also for dummies like me, sort of, I can use memory level up in the bios. Anyway I have tried that and I just get freezing in the o/s, if it even makes boot. I have tried manually setting it to 1600 speed but only using 9,9,9,24, 1t timings and a memory voltage increase from 1.6 to 1.8. No use. Thats about where my expertise finishes. I decided what the heck! So I have purchased the TW3X4G1600C9DHX set, and am hoping that this will run at the full 1600 this board supports. The memory arrives tomorrow so I can try it then. I hope it works?, but Assuming it does not work at 1600 but does at 1333, would it be possible to re insert the old 1333 memory kit along side the new and run them both at 1333 speed? I understand that both these memory module kits have the same timings but different voltage settings. Is this possible or should I basically just use one kit or the other but not both? Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. And yes I know I should have gone for the 1600 memory first, but I didn't and theres nothing I can do about it. Cheers and thank-you, Gary.

I would just find another use for the old memory and use the newer faster modules alone for best performance. If you do try and mix them it is likely that you would have to run the memory at DDR1066 to keep the system stable.

Thank you very much for such a speedy answer to my question, Mr Ram Guy. Assuming that I do try and run both kits together at a later date, what would be the best voltage. The voltage that the fastest kit runs at, or, the lower voltage of the slowest kit? Or if I have read other posts correctly, 1.8 volts is fine and well below the warranty level of 2 volts? I am after at the moment, a faster system, but in time I think my computer will be used more for learning and work, so an 8 gig system may be appealing at a later date. If 1.8 volts is fine at 1066, then please, no need to reply, you must have a lot of other stuff to do. Thanks and Best of health.

Gary.

Just set Bios to run a memtest and set legacy usb disabled while doing it.

If it runs, it runs.

However, i fully agree to what ram guy said. If you do not specifically need 8GB then go with the 1600MHZ 4GB set and sell the other.

Setting both rams in 1066MHZ would mean you throw 534+267=801MHZ away. And most likely stability issues as the mothercake wont coop in the long run with to much differences.

In future it will be a wiser choice to do proper research before you buy things. My experience is that Corsair don't always label the bad part with the ram on the boxes (or in fact, Corsair never does!). Though in your case mixing two completely different memories is not relevant to what i just said, your case is that your to uneducated to even own such things as you do!

It is a pitty they can't explain things in the stores properly anymore, or even on Corsairs own site. A monkey would probably do a better work informing the customers. Customers is not self learning. If you want more customers Corsair maybe you should put some more information avaliable so we dont run into walls all the time when we dont know better.

Could you please rephase this? I don't understand what you mean.

Please post any suggestions you have in the Product Suggestions / Requests forum.

Just a quick reply to Henrlk, if I may.

Actually I am highly educated but build my own PC,s for a laugh. I did a lot of research when building my latest rig. I bought the 1333 MHz memory, because that is the supported highest memory for my motherboard, although it may support 1600 overclocked. I am however un-educated in the art of overclocking and was unable to overclock my memory successfully. I have since read posts where 1600 memory has run without issue on my make of board, so I thought go for it. I may get into overclocking at a later date, but as you have pointed out, I need more experience. And as I have now 2 different memory sets, I shall prat about and find out one way or the other. Corsair has not miss led me with their modules in any way. I ain't the slightest bit bothered if I can not run the two kits together. And since I earn a shed load of money through hard work and using this uneducated brain, i think I am entitled to spend my money on w.t.f I like! Hell I may buy a gtx 295 or two gtx 285's next week and a q9650? Although I doubt I will be able to even take them out of the box mate, since I shouldn't possess such technically advanced components, should I Henrlk?

I joined this forum for answers and help, not to be called thick basically. Any way I think I will leave it there. Going to night school later to learn how to read and write.

Wired;

I think Henrlk should have a 24-48 hour suspension from the forum for name calling

I am sorry that happened and I assure you it is not allowed and I do appreciate that you replied with out name calling but still getting your point across but it stops here please. OK ;):

Thanks, but what voltage?

Gary.

A: All of our DDR2 modules will support up to but not over 2.1 Volts unless other wise listed on the modules so if you do try mixing them you will just have to experiment but most likely the memory Voltage will have to be 2.0-2.1 Volts with the NB/SPP?MCH Voltage set to +.2 Volts over default and you will likely have to set the memory frequency at DDR667 or DDR800.

It may just be a language barrier thing, so I'm letting it slide for now. Perhaps one day I'll show you where the big red button is! :)

Thanks Ram Guy for your assistance on this matter. I have now tested each new module with mem test CD,configured my 1600 MHz kit in bios and can report it is running stable using pime 95 with lots of memory tested. For anyone else interested,the timings are as advertised on the memory sticker as 9,9,9,24 and 2T, (which it makes no mention of?) at 1.8 volts. As Henrlk kindly suggested I will bin or sell the 1333 memory and if I decide to go for another 1600 kit, to run 8 gigs, will hopefully be able to run them at 1333 MHz combined. So all's well in the world and the financial crisis is now over.....?

And despite my previous post, I wish Henrlk all the best, and his English is very good indeed, allot better at spelling than my German!

Have a great day everyone!
