Drew81
So I just received the RAM I ordered for my wife's computer. I put it in and got "system failed memory test" voice and then nothing else happens. She's got my old alienware area-51 with an ASUS A7N8X deluxe mobo. Currently, it has 2x Corsair XMS 512mb sticks (pc3200 DDR). The RAM I ordered is the value select 1gb pc3200 ddr (VS1GB400C3). I installed the new RAM into the 3rd slot on the mobo and got the error. I also removed the other 2 sticks and tried it in the first slot and got the same error. I never changed any of the BIOS settings so it's all set to the original settings. Is it a bad stick or do I need to change something in BIOS or...?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 30, 2009 With that MB you will not be able to mix these modules and you will have to set them manually to DDR333 at Cas 2.5-3-3-7 at 2.7 Volts unless you have a 200 FSB CPU. Drew81
I changed the timings to 2.5 - 3 - 3 - 8 and it's working now (windows showing 2gb ram now). It's a 400fsb MB & processor.
