Adoctor
Hi I have a Corsair HX1000W PSU. I put in new processor, it ran fine for few minutes. On ReBoot the system shut off. Now when the Power is reset there is no boot nothing, just for a fraction of a second the Fan runs, LED of the Fan turns on and then it is nothing, The Red LED of the motherboard is on though. Changed with the old processor BUT no good, same results. I did the PSU test with the Pin in the Green and Black socket, and 2 Hard drives attched, the Fan spins and the noise of the Hard Disks is like normal booting sound of the hard disks. NEED HELP PLEASE!!! Thanks Update Just SMOKE a came out of the Motherboard with me Repeated boot switching:( What happened :( IS THIS POWER SUPPLY or Bad Mobo http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/2126/smokep.jpg
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 30, 2009 Looks like the board will need to be replaced. I would suspect that the board was causing the problems, since the PSU stays on and powers the hard drives with no problems. The only way to know for sure would be to check it with a PSU tester or a digital multimeter to make sure the rails are within spec, but if thats not an option, I would test it in a different system to be sure. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 31, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 31, 2009 Looks like a digital multimeter but I could not tell you if that particular one would be reliable/dependable. Here is a link to a good guide that will help you test the voltages with a multimeter: http://www.ochardware.com/articles/psuvolt/psuvolt.html
Adoctor
Thanks for the reply. I am going to get a new motherboard and I am SCARED as hell to power it up with this PSU :[pouts: as I dont know if the PSU fried the Board or the board was bad. Please can you also guide me as to how to avoid short circuit between the casing and the PSU? Does the PSU short circuit the Casing?? Again thanks for the help.
