GbvOblivion
My TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G modules are operating at only 366MHz - 367MHz (CPU-Z v1.5) in my system. I'm no pro, but shouldn't it be 400MHz? Is this normal? If not, can I fix it? I only imagine that the old processor might be throttling it. Everything else in the system is new. Thanks in advance. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 13, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 13, 2009 How many modules are installed and what slots do you have them in?
GbvOblivion
I have 2 (2 x 2G) modules and they are both in channel A on my motherboard.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 13, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 13, 2009 That may be why check the user manual that came with the MB but normally they should be in slots 1-2 or 1-3 to be in dual channel.
GbvOblivion
The channels are separated already. Channel A (Green slots) are DIMM 1, 3 and channel B is 2, 4. So the installation is correct. Let me try anyway.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 13, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 13, 2009 If it's running in single channel and DDR667 then you do not have them in the correct slots.
GbvOblivion
Ok, so I switched one ram module over to the other channel. According to CPU-Z I'm still running a dram frequency of 366.7MHz, only now in single channel.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 13, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 13, 2009 Put the modules back into the correct slots for dual channel. And, look in your BIOS (refer to your manual if needed) and find how to adjust the memory frequency manually. Set it to 400mhz, or DDR800 depending on the wording/terminology used in your BIOS. GbvOblivion
It is for sure set to DDR 800 in the BIOS and I'm still getting 366.7 MHz. My board supports up to 1066. Perhaps if I try them in another system?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 17, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 17, 2009 Yes if you can and please use CPU-Z under the memory tab to check what they are actually running at and please check both modules in the SPD tab and make sure they are showing as the same part. GbvOblivion
I'll have to test them in another system later today. But for reference this is what CPU-Z says now: http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h197/gbv1987/Stuff/Specs.jpg As you can see, almost everything is normal except the DRam speeds. I'll update as soon as I can test the modules in another system.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 18, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 18, 2009 I would suggest contacting the MB maker and see what they say but the modules are correct in the SPD.
GbvOblivion
I have discovered the problem! It is indeed a problem with my older cpu. I tested my modules in another system with the exact motherboard but newer cpu. Everything was correct except the bank cycle time was 23 instead of 22 (Easy fix?). But my currant error was weeded out. Thank you RamGuy for your fast and helpful service!
