V8 Animal
I have replaced my motherboard because i wish to go down the sli route another card coming next week. Formatted my hard drive and loaded vista all ok. Overclocked the cpu to 3.0ghz. Problem occurs when i install 2x2gb sticks i have errors with memtest+v3.5 and OCCT I have a spare set of 8500 memory 2x1gb sticks when i put them in no problems infact temps are very low average 45c Run memtest+v3.5 with 1 stick of 2gb and no errors. Run memtest+v3.5 with 2x2gb sticks reboots after 6 seconds I have decided it's a 4gb problem with my system and may well not be faulty memory. Can someone help me here please to stabalize my system. Set for 2.1v 5/5/5/18 all the rest on auto tried 15 but crashes straight away. Using 2x1gb sticks 3d mark 06 gives me a better score (14k) and have no crashing in games or BSOD Has to be a 4gb issue Thanks for any help. Wired
Test one stick at a time in each slot using Memtest86+ v2.11. So far you've said you've tested ONE stick, but not EACH stick.
V8 Animal
Is there a difference with memtest v3.5 and 2.1v? If i test each single stick with v3.5 it freezes on test 5 about 22% remove stick and put other in and almost the same stage freezes again. Put both in lasts about 4 seconds. DerekT
Memtest 3.5 is not the same piece of software and is not updated. The 2.11 version is still supported and fully updated. Use version 2.11 Memtest86+. Is there a difference with memtest v3.5 and 2.1v? If i test each single stick with v3.5 it freezes on test 5 about 22% remove stick and put other in and almost the same stage freezes again. Put both in lasts about 4 seconds. V8 Animal
Used version 2.1 Ran the test with both modules in 1.5 hours later it stopped showing 3 errors in red. Now testing each stick individualy will report back. Cheers
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 9, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 9, 2009 That would suggest some other problem and did you disable legacy USB support?
V8 Animal
I didn't disable legacy support. Got home tonight and memtest stopped after 5.5 hours 14 passes 1 error in red. Now put other stick in and running test. What do you mean other problem? So far errors with 2 sticks and 1 stick. Before i did these tests set memory @1066 but it shows 1067? Set the voltage @2.1v timing 5/5/5/15 other on auto. Thanks
V8 Animal
Disabled legacy usb and started the test again. Screen has gone into standby how do i wake it up as i have a usb mouse & keyboard? Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 9, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 9, 2009 The system should not go to standby, you are using the http://www.memtest.org version 2.1X correct?
V8 Animal
The system should not go to standby, you are using the http://www.memtest.org version 2.1X correct? Version 2.11 Quiet odd thing happened just. Enabled legacy usb and ran test again screen froze after 6 minutes couldn't use keyboard. Rebooted and nothing black screen in the end reset cmos. Alterd the bios as before then refuses to boot into windows. Returned the cpu to it's std setting 2.4 and changed the memory to 1066 and it's timings. Had the memory linked to overclock {5.8} now no overclock {1.2} So will run test again with both sticks. Are you saying if you have legacy disabled in memtest you can still use the keyboard to configure test eg C / ESC? Thanks again.
V8 Animal
Just tried it. I cannot use the keyboard in the test if i disable legacy support. Other options in bios. USB 2 & HUB CONTROLLER both can be disabled. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse this mobo doesn't even have a PS-2 port. Cheers
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 9, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 9, 2009 Just leave legacy Disabled you do not need the KB when testing.
V8 Animal
Hi just checked my pc 2k errors and climbing rapidly!! Will test it now with legacy disabled but not sure if this is the problem. Thanks
V8 Animal
That would suggest some other problem and did you disable legacy USB support? Hi again. Legacy disabled! 15mins into the test a row of 6 red errors. This ram must be faulty. Got a pair of 1gig sticks of the same memory and ran that for 12 hours without the legacy thing disabled and that's ok.
V8 Animal
Just to double check i stopped memtest this morning. 2x1GB Sticks 9 hours 22 passes and NO errors same settings as the 2x2GB sticks. I either have a 4gig problem or faulty memory. Thanks

V8 Animal
Received my replacement sticks today. Decided to test the memory individually. Put one in and ran it memtest didn't run. Disabled usb legacy and it did run but after 10 minutes but coloured blocks on the screen garbled graphics but could make out the test in the background. Put the pair in and did a quick 1 pass test. Can these sticks be tested individualy? Or do i have a faulty board? Not overclocked and timings set as stated on the stick. Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 19, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 19, 2009 Yes please test them one at a time in every slot, if you have a failing module they will fail the same way in every slot if it is some other problem the errors will be more random IE One slot they work fine but not in another slot.
