Lapping

I didn't see any reason to on my EX system. I checked the block with a machinist rule and mine was flat in all directions and the base was very smooth. They did a very good job on the new EX blocks. Check yours before you install it, I bet you'll find it very flat........... :D:

kobwo, The HC EX unit should have a surface finish of 4 micro inches or less and the flatness is controlled by the clamping fixture during the polishing process. The performance between the cold-block at 4 micro inches vs. lapping would be nearly nothing to write home about. For the cost to lap the block for performance, you would not see anything noticable. Just a shinny bottom that nobody can see once the block is applied to the processor. If processors were hitting several hundred watts of heat, lapping the cold-block could show a minimal improvement. As for now, the hottest Intel chip of the Prescott hasn't reached this level. Stev
