malvord
I have a Maximus Extreme that I originally put 4 gb in (2 CM3X2048-1600C7DHXIN) from TigerDirect. It has been running fine, but I finally decided to add an additional 4 Gb bringing it to 8 Gb. I ordered the same part number from TigerDirect and they shipped 2 CM3X2G1600C9DHXNV. Everything in the BIOS is set to Auto but when I added the additional memory the box would hang during the POST. I guess my 1st question would be, is the new memory even compatable with the old? If it is compatable, any ideas on how to adjust the BIOS? Full Config: BIOS: ASUS Ver 803 build 11/27/07 Processor: Intel X9650 3 Ghz Original Memory: CM3X2048-1600C7DHXIN XMS3-1600 2048Mb 1600Mhz 7-7-7-20 1.9v ver 3.1 08030887 New Memory: CM3X2G1600C9DHXNV XMS3-1600 2048Mb 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24 1.8v ver 3.1 08440573
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 24, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 24, 2009 With 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR1066 or DDR1333 and set the memory Voltage to 1.7-1.90 Volts and set the NB/MCH/SPP Voltage to +.05 Volts as well and test the system with http://www.memtest.org. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
