TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX timing

I'm a newbie, so if this is a stupid question, just say so.:o:

I've read several user reviews that say the 4-4-4-12 timing advertised for the TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX can't be obtained.

What needs to be adjusted to get the advertised timings?

What if any other information regarding specific mobo or other is needed to answer this question?

Here ya go - I read these reviews yesterday on Newegg's TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX sale w/ reviews; not much info, but seemed worth asking about: (maybe they just don't know how to adjust? I certainly don't - YET.

Please post proper adjusting method. - Thanks :D:

Also, some concern about receiving rebates ? (several posts about not receiving rebates from Corsair)

Pros: Corsair. Large heatsinks.

Cons: BSODS. Would not run at 4-4-4-12 as advertised. Settled for auto....now getting bsods on 5-5-5-18.

Other Thoughts: Will buy Corsair, but prolly not memory...least for awhiles.

This user purchased this item from Newegg 1/29/2009 4:30:05 PM Rebate is hit or miss! Timings are off too.

Pros: They worked.

Cons: 1. Did not work at advertised timings (had to use 5-5-5-18)

2. I dislike having to cross my finger in hopes that I would get rebate. My last two orders of Corsair memory came with rebates and were sent with instructions followed perfectly (took my sweet time and triple checked both rebates).

Other Thoughts: This is my third pair of Corsair Ram. I never got the rebates for the first two pairs that I purchased two years ago. There is a light at the end of the tunnel though. This time around I actually received an email from the Corsair rebate people. Let's hope I still remember that I have a rebate coming. The first documentation is the form that you fill out. There it states that it may between 8-10 weeks. Then the next documentation comes in the form of an email where it confirms that the pre-registration was successful. There it states that it will take that it will now be 12 weeks! Why can't the company simply communicate the truth from the beginning? It's probably because it doesn't matter what time frame they quote; the plan it to probably not provide you with any rebates just as I was not given anything with the first two Corsair pairs that I bought that offered a rebate.

This user purchased this item from Newegg 1/29/2009 11:27:02 AM Great RAM

Pros: This RAM runs great at stock but to get a 5.9 in Vista scores you must adjust the bios a little bit. Running on auto clocks the RAM down and scores a 5.7. I have 8 Gigs on a Vista Ultimate 64 bit box.

Cons: Cannot get the RAM at the specified timing which iswhy it gets 4 o9ut of 5 eggs. On an Abit IP35Pro board, I can not get a 4-4-4-12 timing. Bumping the voltage up to the advertised max, 2.1v, and leaving it at stock speed, a 4-4-4-12 timing gets me the BSOD. The best I can get is 5-4-4-12 @ 2.1v and 816Mhz.

First 2 don't mention specs, so as far as we know they're running it on non-compatible hardware (e.g. OEM stuff). The 3rd is running 2 pairs together, which isn't guaranteed when not buying a QUAD pack.

As for rebates, never had an issue myself.

The only memory Corsair supports in a four DRAM slot population is their Quad kits. This does not mean two dual kits or even worse two dual kits of different versions will not work together, just that you have no recourse to RMA Corsair if they do not work together. If there are problems with the DRAM modules, they are still supported via lifetime warranty, but that is for physical defects and errors in a two stick kit mode. Matched Quad sets are highly binned modules for a four slot population. The Dual sets are tested as a kit, not a Quad and warranted as a dual kit, not a Quad setup. You need to Memtest them as Kits (2 modules, not as a four DRAM slot population). If they fail as a kit or singly, then you have RMA. Keep in mind that there is no support for mixing and matching different versions of DRAM either since different version are of different fabrications and/or manufacturers. They might work, they might not work, but you have no support if they do not work. Thus you are advised to buy all the DRAM at the same time and in this way be more assured of getting the same versions. If you buy online, be sure to specify same versions of the modules and do not expect even then that they will work and again, no support unless you purchase a quad kit.

For a four DRAM slot population of 1066Mhz DRAM you are advised to drop the bandwidth to 800Mhz and raise the NB Voltage +.2v.

Please research this thread:

http://www.houseofhelp.com/v3/showthread.php?t=64360&highlight=Unpredictable+results+QUAD2X4096+Gigabyte+X38-DS5

There is a limitation of the On Motherboard (Intel) memory controller or On CPU (AMD) and a population of all four banks at the full speed of a two bank run. This limitation is across the board with both AMD and Intel chipset based boards, DDR, DDR2 and DDR3.

Keep in mind that often issues can arise in the longer term even though you have shorter term stability. The issues seldom damage the DRAM unless you raise the DRAM voltage too high. They damage the on CPU (AMD) memory controller which has a harder time keeping up with the demands of a four DRAM slot population being run as fast as a two DRAM slot population.

The only time I have had rebate issues is when I did not follow the instructions to the letter.
