Help! I can't find my Dell on the Compatible memory tool

Recommended Posts

and there's a good deal on zipzoom but the rebate is expiring today!

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 but the Compatible tool only lists the Dimension 8300.

I'm not sure which additional info is needed, so here's a bunch:

Pentium 4 Prescott DT

3.4 ghz

925X chipset

Dual Inline Memory

Module 2 X 512

64 X 64,8,240

400 and 533 mhz

unbuffered SD RAM

I'm thinking of upgrading to 4GB RAM...does this make sense given my computer?

I only have 1 GB now. I understand I need two of the same size sticks to upgrade....yes?

I found what looks like a great deat on zipzoomfly:

CORSAIR XMS2 4GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 Memory Kit TWIN2X4096-6400C5 Memory Retail ***Free Shipping***

$19.99 after $30 rebate.

But the rebate expires TODAY 1/31/2009

Will this memory fit my computer?

The rebates are also available on the following memory, but all expire today. If the above doesn't work for my computer, will any of the others? Thanks!!

TWIN2X2048-6400C4 G $30.00

TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX $45.00

Dell memory and our Value Select PC 4200 will work with your system:

Your manual says your system will take up to 4GB but, Windows XP will not address all of this system memory. However, you will likely "see" about 3.5GB of it which is still a substantial upgrade. Upgrading to Vista will allow you to fully utilize the full 4GB. However, if you are not using 3.5GB of memory, then Vista is not a necessity in your case.

The information in AN806 OPERATING SYSTEM section about 32bit vs 64bit and MMIO is good reading:
