Howard_Woodard
I've been trying to troubleshoot occasional exception code 5 abends. Most things that I've found on the web seem to point [most often] to RAM. So I went in to BIOS to try to manually set the timings. When I got into BIOS I didn't find everything that I expected to nor were some of the timings what I would have expected. I don't find anything about command rate on any of the BIOS pages or within the parameter value selections. Nor do I find tRC which my memory specs says should be set to 22. Following is from my BIOS: Configure System Performance Settings CPU Ratio Setting [Auto] FSB Strap to North Bridge [Auto] DRAM Frequency DDR2-1066MHz DRAM Timing Control [Manual 1st Information : 5-5-5-18-3-52-6-3 CAS# Latency Eta) [5 DRAM Clocks] DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay [5 DRAM Clocks] DRAM RAS# Precharge [5 DRAM Clocks] DRAM RAS# Activate to Precha [18 DRAM Clocks] RAS# to RAS# Delay [Auto] Row Refresh Cycle Time [Auto] Write Recouery Time [Auto] Read to Precharge Time [Auto] The RAM voltage is set to 2.1 vdc. Is anyone familiar with this mobo/memory combination that can tell me how to best set it up? Thanks in advance, Howard
DerekT
Let's diagnose first. Your settings are already such that you should not be finding DRAM issues. Download memtest from--->Here and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to an CD-ROM disk. Download CPU-z from Here . Boot to the Memtest CD and allow for two full passes. Then, if stable, enter Windows and post screenshots of the CPU-z CPU, Memory and SPD tabs.
Howard_Woodard
Thanks. Memtest ran perfectly for 4 hours. Also, Prime95 torture test ran for two hours without error. Here (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=489729) is the link to the CPU-z validator page with my CPU info along with two attachments of the screen captures you asked for. Thanks helping me. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2009 Your settings look perfect to me and the testing results verify that you have set it up correctly.
Howard_Woodard
Ok, thanks. Now I can move on to other possibilities for the abends. Regards, Howard
