VS2GBKIT400C3 - module failure

History:

The kit RAM is 10 months old. Upon first insertion, I had to swap the sticks to get a proper boot up. Three months ago, with no other soft- or hardware changes in the interim, the PC would just reboot. Removed one stick - and the system has been working fine.

The moment I add the second stick (in either the first or the second slot), Windows XP Pro 32-bit will go into a boot up-restart loop. Replicated as recently as this morning.

Situation:

I would like to use the full 2GB RAM that was paid for, and need to return the single module that is causing the problem or the pair (if that is the recommendation).

Please advise.

Thank you.

After clearing BIOS by resetting the CMOS jumper on the motherboard, and with default Phoenix/Award v6 BIOS settings, the machine boots into Windows XP with one stick.

With the other stick, there is a series of long beeps, and nothing else.

Will Memtest actually do anything when the system does not POST?

Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks.

I have completed the online support form using TSX, and await the RMA number to be sent by e-mail. I will send both sticks in their original packaging.

Edit: The link ( http://www.corsair.com/warranty/rma_form.aspx ) you posted is a different form than the one I filled out via TSX. Will that be a problem? I have the case number if you need it.

Earlier today I received a request to clarify the module count - I had put down 1 (thinking of it as one kit). Although a reply with a count of 2 (sticks) was posted using the URL in the mail, I am still waiting on the RMA number.

Hopefully it will be sent Thursday Jan 15, so I can ship it tomorrow itself.

Thanks.
