Additional memory purchase

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I'm going to buy additional memory & I would like some help. I can see reading the forum, that people are having a tricky time installing new memory sticks with different versions. Rather than buy, install and then find a solution, I'd like to try and sort this out before I upgrade. I'd like to get a total of 1GB of memory, but I think I could easily go to 1.5GB using my current set up. My system includes: Asus P4P800 Deluxe, Bios V1016.002 512mb Corsair TwinX XMS3200LLPT (2x256mb) P4 2.6 Hyperthread 800FSB Looking at the memory sticks the information included on them, reads: Corsair Platinum TwinX CMX256A-3200LLPT XMS3205 V1.2 0324066 XMS3200 256mb 400Mhz 2326-TI I've looked at the site where I purchased my existing sticks from, and I think I will get either: option one: Corsair 512MB DDR XMS3200LLPT TwinX (2x256mb) CAS 2 option two: Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200LLPT TwinX (2x512mb) CAS 2 My current memory sits in Dimm-A1 and Dimm-B1 (blue slots). Any new memory will sit in Dimm-A2 & Dimm-B2 (black slots). The Main Questions * Will I have a version incompatability issue: I have V1.2 - if the vendors sale V3.1 or something another version? * Having 256mb in two slots and 512mb in the other two slots, won't be a problem - or do I need to have 256mb in all four slots? (I think I can have the 256mb and 512mb mixture) *Should I totally replace the existing sticks, and buy option 2 (1GB TwinX) instead? Thanks in advance, RichUK
