Memory Upgrade for HP D4000 Laptop

I purchased 2-1GB Corsair Memory (VS1GSDS333 G) to replace my 2-512K Laptop memory in my HP Pavilion dv4000. When I opened up the laptop to upgrade, the new Corsair Memory wouldn't fit in. When I lined up the old memory to the new memory, the notch on the bottom of the memory (where the gold strip is) didn't line up. The new Corsair memory's notch was just slightly to the right of the existing memory. Doesn't seem like much, but just enough so that I can't install the new memory in the laptop. I check's Corsair's website and I purchased the correct memory for my laptop. Any recommendations or do I just have to return my memory?

Thank you.

There are two versions of your laptop. New version uses DDR2, old version uses DDR. You may have to call HP to see which version you have and what RAM it takes. But I suspect you need DDR. From Wikipedia,

The 200-pin SO-DIMM has two variations for locating the notch which are nearly indistinguishable to the naked eye. If the notch is located further outboard, it indicates the DDR class of memory. When the notch is located nearer the center of the board, it indicates DDR2. These two types of memory are not interchangeable, and the different notch locations prevent incorrect installation. The 200-pin SO-DIMM depicted in the accompanying photograph has the notch slightly outboard, and is thus DDR. Caution should be exercised when visually identifying 200-pin SO-DIMM modules.
