520HX problems

Having trouble with my 520HX, PC fails to POST.

Tried the PSU in two other PCs, worked in one, but not in the other.

The two it doesn't work in have similar specifications:

PC1: Abit ip35-e, intel q6600, 8800GTS 640, 2x ******** DDR2 PC2-6400C4.

PC2: Abit IP43, intel e8400, 8400GS, 1GB generic RAM.

Tried different combinations of the components in the above PCs, no joy with any combination.

PC it does work with is much older: Asus K8V-X SE, AMD semperon 3100+, ATI 9800xt, 1.5GB generic RAM. Although I didn't like to leave it on too long in case there was a problem with the PSU which might cause damage to the PC.

The fact the one it does work in has much lower power requirements coupled with the fact it doesn't work with any combination of the more powerful components has led me to the conclusion that the problem is with the power supply.

Tried all the obvious things such as resetting CMOS.

Any advice?

Normally if the PSU is faulty, the problems will be consistent, so in this case I would not suspect the PSU. The only way to know for sure would be to test it in a different system and see if the problem follows the PSU. You may want to test your memory modules one at a time in the slot closest to the CPU and see if both modules give you the same problems, or if you can isolate a single module which may be causing these issues.
